First GEC...but which one?

beautiful pictures, everyone. Just out of curiosity....does anyone have photo's of the GEC which will most resemble the 2013 Blade Forum knife? Trying to picture in my mind before putting order in (I'm a newby). Sorry if this was already answered in anther thread. Thank you everyone in advance.

I prefer larger knives with a clip blade and a straight blade (Wharncliffe, sheepfoot, coping), so my two favorite GECs are the #53 Cuban stockman and the #48 traditional trapper, which I modified by grinding the spey down to a long sheepfoot. Here are the two I carry most often.

Do you want a slim pen knife or a jack configuration? If a pen configuration is fine then I think the #33 or #68 would be great. Here is a pic with my Case swayback jack along with a #33, #61, #62 and #53. The #33 is 3 3/8" while the #61 is 3 5/8". The #68 would be in between these 2.

Adding 2 pics with a #33 and #68.

Thanks for all of the info and pics! Still mulling it over...

Why does everyone like the Boy's knife so much? I'm not saying I dislike it, I'm just curious as to why so many recommended it.

For me, it just fits. There is something about the pattern, blade and bone, that harken back to an era where if you had pants on you had a knife in your pocket. The 15 is slim enough to disappear in the pocket, but has a big enough handle and blade to make you feel well equipped for anything you might confront in a day. The all steel construction is solid and I can tell the whole knife will age beautifully. The Boy's Knife was my first GEC and I really couldn't be happier. It is such a great all around knife and stirs up the nostalgia...For whatever it's worth

Not to derail this thread but you can find some pics of it here http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1061823-2013-BF-Traditional-Forum-knife-update?p=12117618#post12117618. It looks like its based on the #61 frame.

I´d recommend the GEC #66 Serpentine Jack, if you can find any of them... they are great knives...

or the (pretty underrated) #12 Powderhorn Jack which is a very great knife, too. I was a little concered because of its unique appearance, but it makes a great pocketable knife

The #66 Jack is a great one too. It looks like there are still a few out there but I can only find the ones with white acrylic covers, not bone, wood, etc. The jack is slightly thinner than the calf roper (3 blade stockman on the same frame) but I can't comment on how it compares to the muskrat or moose configs.

I guess I should have said that I teach Anatomy & Physiology in college, so I like to carry smaller knives in case I need to open a case of supplies or something in front of a student or co-workers. And I always wear dress slacks to work, so I don't want a big heavy knife bouncing around in there. I have bigger knives that I use when I want something bigger.

I don't know if I should go ahead and get the Pemberton as a sort of idealized Peanut, or if I should get something a little longer/slimmer like the White Owl...I've found a good looking White Owl that I'm thinking will come first. Like many of you have said...I'll probably end up with more than one!

That info does help. I'm an educator as well and usually reach for my peanut at work when I'm in the company of others. With said, I have been eyeballing the single bladed pemberton in ebony. FWIW

First rate pictures Trand! You really capture the spirit of that Kryptonite W.Owl (should be funky enough for an anatomy lecturer:D:D )

Since the OP wants a slim lighter knife for formal pocket carry, I feel that 2 spring 66 or Boys' knives may be too bulky and heavy. The Conductor or the Owl - one spring-no question, all available in carbon or stainless and a lot of handle choices:wood, bone, stag, acrylic.

Thanks, Will

boys knife(yellow bone) and the calf roper(ebony or cocobolo) some of the best in folders

LOL! I know I'm a little different...otherwise I wouldn't be talking with strangers on the internet about pocket knives, now would I!? :D

sorry i don't have all three of the ones you mentioned to do a comparison. I do have a fondness for the 68 white owl though. Weaker pull because of the two blade single spring, but ti's a little big knife, can do a lot for it's size and is as pocket friendly as you could want. The 68 pony Jack is a nice option if you like a bit more or a jack style:

Where can you find the Pony Jack? I like the clip blade with long pull.

Thanks Will!! I found the #33 and #68 to be perfect for pocket carry at work which is why I can always recommend them. The Case peanut and pen knife (and similar size/thickness knives) work great too.

What's so strange about that  You wouldn't be calling us strange now wouldya?;)
