First GEC help

71s are excellent, I think you’ll be very happy with it.

A great intro to GEC as well. While they’re a bit less refined, they have the same “feel” as a lot of the tidioute or northfield line knives so you’ll know if you want to go further down the rabbit hole or not.
Awesome

I stuck to the slip joint advice and got a 71. Hopefully it arrives without getting burned. Damn secondary markets. Thanks
Indeed an excellent choice, 71's rock.

As for the secondary market prices... flippnsonsabitches.

Good choice on the 71. I have one that I carry at work in tough conditions and it is holding up very well. View attachment 2230883
Well this is surely a tank. Pretty stiff on the pull. Does that loosen up at all with time? Assuming shouldn’t have this shut hard or may get blade rap. Undecided on my opinion as of today.

My advice for the pull would be to oil the joint and use it a lot.

As for blade rap, none of my GECs have it. From what I can tell, it has presented on some specific runs but isn't a widespread issue with GEC's knives.

I recently read somewhere that the French think it's rude to let the blade slam home - do with that tidbit what you will. 🤷🤣🇫🇷🥐🧀

Congrats - can't wait to pick up my first 71!

I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a 71 getting blade rap from shutting, only ever from pressing the blade inward while closed. Let that thing slam closed all you want.

In my limited experience with just a few 71s, they come a bit gritty and that makes the pull feel tougher. It’ll break in with time. Or you could flush out the pivot with oil to get all the crud out.

71s are gator snaps i heard. ive seen blade rap on a 71, and more recently, 92 and 85s. Suppose some folks are more cavalier about closing their knives, maybe

Yes the tang will round off and the spring will relax a bit, but a bigger factor is that your thumb and nail will get stronger as you use it. One of the reasons I like them so much is the strong spring since it’s a working knife.

Thank you. Looking forward to putting it to work

Had a nice bonding day with the 71 and it’s becoming a good friend. Knife is great

Does the pill ever loosen on the 71? Maybe a bit too much for me. I can get it open and all but it ain’t easy. I know it’s supposed to be stiff and a work knife but just wondering if will loosen a bit. I’ve been oiling and working it a bit but not much of a difference. May just need tougher nails or look for a different blade. Thanks.
