First GEC, very happy

My first GEC- a 2 bladed Tidioute scout just arrived today. Wow. Now THAT's a slippie. The thing's a beast! So much for buying the "smaller model"- it's a boat anchor! And the backsprings are real thumbnail-busters, It will be interesting to see what they're like on the Pioneer. I honestly don't know if I'll be able to open that thing. The half-stops on the Scout are serious- this is a MAN's knife, no mistake about it.

The Tidioute is in a class of its own- it does not compare to any of my other slippies at all in terms of fit and finish. It completely pwns everything else I have- crushes any of my Case knives. Wow, wow, wow. It is a thing of beauty. If I can get used to the tough backsprings, and the weight, it will be a long-term user for sure. No more tacticals for me. If anyone out there doesn't have a GEC yet, do yourself a favor! I wish I had known about these sooner. They are most impressive. And the price is more than reasonable, considering how nice they are.

Oh. My. Goodness. These guys just arrived- and I'm freaking out. I was very, very happy with my Tidioute 2 blade Scout. And then these things showed up. They're even more beautiful in person than they are in that picture. The Scout, in particular, is flawless. The handle feels so right, the balance is remarkable, the half stop is crisp, it snaps with THUNDER. This thing is a work of art! I've never handled another slippie that comes close. Both knives have convex edges- with just a hair's width (literally) of microbevel, and are crazy, razor sharp. Nice swedges on the blades. Simply stunning.

Interestingly, the backsprings are not overly tough on either knife. They seem "just right". I think my 2 blade scout just has super monster backsprings on it. I was afraid that the Pioneer would be too hard to open, but it's actually a little easier than the Tidioute. They may be the same, but the thumb-nick on the Pioneer is further from the pivot, so there's better leverage.

I am sold on GEC, hook line and sinker. I'm about ready to sell off my collection and dump everything into this company. I haven't been this happy with a knife in a long, long time. My wife ordered 2 more for me this morning as a birthday present- a "Dead Skunk" acrylic stockman and a tan roughcut bone Barlow. I'm confident they will blow me away, too. Hooray GEC!

Just curious, what seems to be the most comfortable GEC knife for pocket carry? The Scout seems the best, because of its shorter handle, but the handle seems beefier than the equal end (harness jack, muskrat, stockman) models. Thanks.

Edit - duh, I guess the Barlow would be the easiest carry, but what model would be, excluding the Barlow?

Moonwilson, I'm not surprised, these knives impress all round and all over:thumbup:

The scale choices are getting close to the range offered by Bark River! I recently missed getting a yellow jigged bone Barlow by a whisker:grumpy:
I'd like to hear what others think of the Barlow.

Update: Well, she has been in my pocket since I posted this and I am happy to say I think it will be that way for a long time to come. The Canoe is looking a bit surly, but hey, thems the breaks! :)

I took her camping last weekend and I got all I could ask for done with a minimum of fuss. I assume 1095 isnt rocket science to heat treat, but the edge held up nicely. There is some patina which I hate (Heresey I know lol) but it does give it that lived in look.

So, the thumbs are still up for this one! Bravisimo GEC! Finally a product we don't have to make excuses for!

Another one hooked.

Jeeze Mike, where do you think these guys have been ? I see one has been hiding in the bushes, but what about the others, W&C ? ;)

Here you are fellas. I have two scouts in my rotation, a primative bone, and this one, which was slicked up with some stabilized mammoth ivory, rounded corners, springs & tangs polished for smoother opening & closing, fine belt finish, and a little file work.

These will sure cut into the knife money ! :p
