I’m looking to buy my first GEC and I just can’t decide what to get, so I think i might just let you guys decide. Here is what I’m looking at:

Northfield/Tidioute Bull Moose
Possum Skinner
#15 Boys knife
#66 Calf Roper

I’m kind of wondering if the bull moose/possum skinner may be a little bit big in the pocket for me. For the #15 I will have to remove the bale. My concern with the 66 is that I don’t think I will ever use all three blades. That is some of the stuff I’m going back and forth about. This knife will go into my carry rotation. So, can y’all help me make a decision?

Of those I'd go 15 or 66. The 15 is a fantastic knife, very pocketable and useful, mine gets carried a ton.

The 66 is also a great choice, I use 2 of the 3 blades frequently and leave the spey blade Razor sharp for delicate tasks. The only downside I can say is that the sheepsfoot blade sticks out pretty far until you are used to it.

The 81 and 82 are both much larger frames that won't be as comfortable in pocket, the 81 especially. Solid patterns for sure, but less pocketable.

Assuming you are just looking for an edc knife to carry around in your pocket for whatever turns up, I'd go with the 66. It's a great pattern.

How's about an #82 stockman? You'll barely notice the third blade until you need it.

You've laid out some excellent options. You cannot go wrong with any of them.

The 82 stockman is also a really nice pattern, if you want something bigger than the 66.

With a single spring and rounded bolsters, the Possum Skinner carries small.

I would say he #15, but I think the only ones left on shelves have the chain. I'm not really into those.
So, for the knives left on the shelves... My vote goes to the #66. I've never owned a Bull Moose or Possum Skinner.

I appreciate all the input, but I’m a little disappointed that no one has said to just buy them all. That is usually the most common response on any “what knife to buy” thread. Hahaha.

I voted for Possum Skinner. Great combo of curved-edge and straight-edge blades, long enough for anything you would need to cut, and slender enough to carry easily.

One thing to consider, I think I've read that if you remove the bail from the 15, the warranty is voided.

I voted #66 because it's my personal favorite of the bunch.

I try not to make suggestions outside of the subject knives but in this case I just can't resist. Have you considered the #35 Churchill? Lot of folks like them for many reasons and one of those reasons is because it doesn't have that third blade that many people, like yourself, don't need. It has everything you need and nothing you don't.

It also carries very well and has a great in hand feel.

ALL great choices and a "can't go wrong with either" works here but for a do all, I voted the 66. Jeff's right once you buy one you'll end up with the others eventually:eek::D

#66 voted here....either 2 or 3 blade. Second choice would be the #15. Let us know where you land.

The Calf Roper at 3 1/2 inches is large enough to accomplish any task you're likely to run across yet doesn't take up your whole pocket while carrying it. It's just as appropriate at church as it is in the woods or in the field.

Im gonna cast another vote for the 66. Of the still available GECs from retailers I think the 66 is the most pocket friendly and useful. But I am also going to mention what black mamba black mamba said that you will end up buying them all once you get your first one! It is a very slippery slope :)
