Kicked the flu this weekend and got my new Oregon blade maker grinder setup. So far it’s great. I ran out of funds so no variable speed. Hoping to get one by the fall.
Despite that, the machine itself is great. No complaints at all. Last night I had a chance to work on a blade (2nd one in 4 years or so). Up until this knife I have used a guide for my plunge lines. I have always had a plunge line that was perpendicular to the spine. Last I decided to try grinding without a guide and then blending my plunge line. With have no idea how to accomplish this I just hind my belt over the platen 1/4” used the slack to blend. It worked fairly well. Definitely gonna take some practice.
Does anyone have any tips on doing this? I have thought maybe it would be better to do after heat treat? A little. Ore forgiving when the steel isnt being removed so fast?
Also what is everyone’s thoughts on selling blades at cost to recoup cost of material? In the past I have given away many an I have sold a couple.
Also any critics on the blade itself are welcome.
