knife #8. I think I'll give it a while before I go at another gut hook.. any recommendations on sharpening these things? I used a piece of brass rod and went through the grits, but it wasn't as sharp the whole way around as it should be. I gave this knife to a friend just in time for moose season, and he got one and used it, he was pretty happy with how it worked. It's good for me this early in the game to get feedback from people using the knives I make. Comments/critique appreciated!

ive seen them do it with the work sharp tool... next best thing is tape it off and start filing

Gorgeous work!

I wonder why the brass rod didn't work. Did you make the hook with a like sized rod?

I made a sharpening board for my tools with odd shapes.

I had to sort of re grind the bevel to match the rods but it works great.

If you get the rod to work, you should include it with the knife. Again, lovely work. :)

The rod worked ok, it was just really hard to get it sharp the whole way around. That board is a great idea, thanks for the comments!

Very nice looking knife. looks like it would be great for processing elk deer etc. Real sturdy looking.
