First Hamon!

I had some success at my first hamon. It is nothing special but it pretty much followed the way I laid out the clay. This was heat treated at Tobin Smith's. He gave me a good lesson and I think I'm hooked on hamons now.

Next time I'll try something fancier. Steel is W2. I don't know if it is the differential heat treat, qualities of W2, or a combination but I was able to get this knife really sharp.

Thanks guys, that means a lot. My clip point looks a little off in that picture and pictures don't lie! I'll have to fix that.
 
Poor guy, now your addicted. Ive created my first couple of hamons and it is very fun stuff.
 
Nice! I think it turned out pretty good:thumbup: How about a shot of the whole knife, looks like something I would like.
 
W2 is well known for taking a particularly wicked edge. Nice hamon on a nice little knife. :)

I still have to finish the handle. Which at this rate will take me about a year. I'll post it up though.
