Well I finally finished my first knife and after all my lurking through the awesome creations on here, I figured I'd share it. The steel is from the bed knife off of a golf course reel mower. I know it is high carbon steel and hardened to around 50-55 Rockwell C. I shaped the blade with a filing jig without annealing or normalizing it because I just don't have the tools to do so right now. The handle is some hickory from a local hardwoods supplier. The sheath is vegetable tanned leather left natural but I will be sealing it with some oil leather treatment this weekend.

I would have liked to post a few more pictures and might once I figure out how to post more...

Nice looking first blade!

It would be worth getting some higher quality but still easy to work with steel like 1075/1084/1095 etc as it can be hardened quite a bit higher and make for a really great knife.:thumbup::thumbup:

Thanks! I'll have to look into somewhere I can get some steel and maybe somewhere to have it heat treated or a way to heat treat it myself.
