For christmas me and my brother gifted each other tomahawks, we both decided to get the cold steel vietnam tomahawk for the cool factor  and modability. Not a bad hawk for the price and a good change from the normal knife collecting.

I started out with some extreme edge testing on scratch-off tickets, not bad but the edge could use a touch up :p

Then it was on to removing the tacticool paint

And a little grinding, more for affect than anything though the last 1/2in near the main edge is sharp.

There is a bow in the blade that kinda made me :grumpy: but I figure it will even out over time.

I set the profile with a 40 grit and 80 grit belt on my 1x30 and have been using a 1k water stone too clean it up. I think the 1k will work good to keep the edge maintained too, it gets it plenty sharp and leaves a more "worked" finish.

From here I think I'm going to round out all the edges and sand the flats a bit, then do a little flame work to the handle and give it a para cord wrap for better grip. Need to go buy some wood to make a target too :D

Because I plan to do some throwing I have two questions that I could use some help with. 1) where to get replacement handles? 2) can it be modded for a pressure fit type haft? (like found on most other CS hawks)

I dont know the answers to your questions man, but thanks for the pics and post, looking sharp on those edges. I like the scratch card test

Yeah, it chipped the edge a little but now that its been sharpened it should be okay ;)

I started stopping by a few months ago and with no help of the modding sticky I decided hawks are AWESOME! The price of the average hawk is another plus factor....... just gotta stay away from that RMJ site though.....

Dont go to Daniel Winklers site as well:grumpy: (two hawks and a knife later.)

Looks like I could use a few hammer handles?

Kinda thinking of making my own any suggestions on wood? anyone ever try a layered wood haft?
