First "higher" end knife

Thanks for all the input everyone. I'm debating between the 0561 and the 0801. I would probably get the 0566 if it wasn't assisted.

addylo, nice knife but I said in the OP I was looking for a modern folder. Thanks for the input anyways

Its not too hard to de assist a 0566 IIRC. No bearings but if its nice and lubed it should flip just fine.

ZT 0550 it is hands down my favorite among my collection. Small flick of the thumb stud and out pops the blade. I know you've narrowed down your choices, but the 0550 does not disappoint!

Forget about the flipper and get yourself a Spyderco Military. It will carry and perform better than anything previously mentioned. (that's just my opinion...of course it just happens to be right) :)

If that's too big look at the paramilitary.

I'd suggest bumping your budget up a little bit more. Since there are ton's of knives that sit around the $200 mark. Look at the ZT0560/561 if you are into flippers. I found some online for around $180. If I knew my exact financial future I'd pick one up today (moving and all the places to rent in what I was planning to pay ain't looking so good lol)

Some people recommended the HEST. I wouldn't (its also not a flipper) but mine was showing problems after a day of opening and closing.

Southard.

Yes, it's a wee bit over budget and made outside the Usa but it's worth it!

If I go with something without a flipper I'd probably like to try an Axis lock.

Also could someone please give me a zt 0560 size comparison with like a tenacious, rat II, or leek. I'd really appreciate it

Sorry. I had nothing you mentioned. But hopefully this helps.

It's feels great in the hand. Very strong grip.

Between the 566 and the 801 I'd choose the 801 hands down. The 801 is full titanium and has a bearing pivot.

The Spyderco Domino and Southard are also worth taking a look at. Don't let the "Taiwan" name throw you. Spyderco's best knives come from their Taichung plant.

Thanks Tmack, the first picture helped me quite a bit. I'm still debating between the 0560/1 and the 0801.

Well there's a 0560 black wash in the exchange right now for $185
Looks perfect.

Off topic but, where did you get those handle scales for the Izula?

Knife connection. I have them for all my esee.
Izula 2
Esee 5
Junglas

G10 midnight tiger.
They have many variations.

Really gives the Izula 2 much needed body to the handle. Feels perfect now.

They carry the same no questions lifetime warranty as the blades. . Can't beat that!

For something fun and different you can look at the Boker GTC. The blade steel is 440C, but Boker seems to heat treat it pretty good. There's a comparison video on Youtube of the Boker collaboration with the Custom GTC.
