That's excellent! I got my Griz back for Christmas and my first hollow didn't look that good! Good job.

Thanks for the kind words folks. Can't believe what a difference using the 2x72 grinder makes. It usually takes me 10- 15 hrs. to hand finish a flat ground knife after heat treatment. With the new grinder and a little bit of pbc non-scale powder it only took about 2 hrs. max to finish this one. Makes me wander what a KMG would be like.

Thanx
Don

Very Nice, I built my grinder (2 x 72) and am pretty happy except the tracking and adjustments take alot of time. How is the grizzley can you get very steady tracking and does it take much time to set up or change belts?? The price is in the range I could afford. Also how is the motor do you slow the belts when adding pressure?

The only frame of reference I have on the tracking is a 1x42 and 6x48 delta but it did seem to track pretty well. The only time it wanted to travel was when I removed the platen and tried to slack belt sand. As soon as I put the platen back on and did the slack belt sanding between the contact wheel and the platen it stopped. The only time the motor beginned to bog down was cleaning up the flats on the platen with the finer belts but I was using quite a bit of pressure. Easing up on the pressure and taking my time took care of that. Changing the belts was a breeze and could be done in a few seconds. It was a bit of a challenge to keep the knife cool while grinding with the finer belts (1200-3000grit norax). The blade had to be dunked in the water bucket every pass. I'm sure that's where the variable speed or stepper motor would come in handy. I can also see why you would want to put something besides the graphite that grizzly puts on the platen. Just after this one knife the graphite is already starting to show some wear. I'm thanking probably a ceramic plate. I can already see a KMG or Bader machine in my future (1 or 2 years down the road) but right now I'm pretty happy with the new toy.

Your Hamon Line looks outstanding, Your grind is great for the frist time. Great job on the handle. You are on your way from what I can see. The more you grind the better you will get. God bless and thanks for posting your knife to see.

Great job! I'm sure your buddy will be pleased! Only one question... Looks like some ugly scratches at the back of the handle???

I was wandering if anybody would point that out. If you mean around the thong slot. What you are seeing is some fingerprints that I missed wiping off before the pictures.
