The bow season for Texas is under way.

Looks like the niece scored this morning. She did good taking out what we call a cull. Cull= bad horns. And said it had a broken hip.

Yes, cross bows are now legal in Texas.

They aren't tuned into taking pics showing the knives, but they only have 110's and 426's :)

Good cull Larry. Yes, crossbows have been legal in TX. for 20yrs.. I'm suprised that one didn't deliver a complete pass. DM

Looks like the rule changed in 2009.

Q2: Is it legal to hunt with a crossbow during the Archery Only Season?
A2: Yes, it is now legal for anyone to use a crossbow during both the Archery Only and General Seasons. You do not need a doctor's statement anymore to use a crossbow during the Archery Only season on private property. The Texas Legislature passed this new law in 2009. Regulations in Grayson County and some unit of public hunting lands still restrict crossbow use during the Archery Only season to persons with permanent upper limb disabilities. For additional information on crossbow restrictions please see the Outdoor Annual under Hunting Regulations

"for anybody" They were being used/ allowed prior to 2009. Many states still have not adopted them even for handicapped hunters. But when you have 3 million deer eating up crops legislators respond. DM

Yes, prior, had to have letter from a Dr documenting upper body disabilities.
Haven't had a report this morning. Looks like they are getting rain out there.

We had rain pass thru and the last two mornings its been in the upper 30's. But I guess the rain turned up north. I was hoping TX. would get some. Makes for great hunting weather. DM

Well that little critter went and got her another one with that fancy cross bow.
This one is a nice 7 point. Brother said she was having a blast with that thing. I told her she was trigger happy..lol.

They said they loved the 426 Bucklites, mainly because that was the only sharp knives they had with them.. Then I sent him a link to a Lansky sharpening system. :D

And he said the rain gage has 4.5 inches so far. Said they worked up the 7 point in the rain. I think that was a hint to build a roof over the cleaning tree.
Its a good idea, but you know who gets stuck doing all the labor. Oh well..

Glad they are having fun.

A kill is a kill and meat is meat. The hunt and chase are everything. Congrats. My daughter goes out for the first time this year. We have been spending time at the gun club getting her proficient with her .243-hope I can post a pic of her with one as well.

The .243 is about as good as it gets for the whitetail we have. The Niece in the pics has her own little Winchester and has taken several with it in regular gun season. I think we have 5 or 6 in the family.

Niece did say that had this been gun season, she would have let the last one walk. But had a perfect line up for a neck shot and didn't know if she would make it back out, she took the shot. Grandma has taught her well on how to cook it. She is 26 and single :) She says "Married ? What did I do wrong? Why do I have to get married?". Funny kid.

Haha! She's got a healthy outlook. Sounds like when she does get hitched, she'll be doing it for the right reasons, and they'll be happy.

I just don't think she has found anyone yet that knows how to gut a deer and has his own rifle... :)

Well that is a prerequisite, glad she has standards. I'm gonna have my daughter read this thread so she can learn something:p

You know there should be a dating web site for singles that hunt, the NRA could sponsor it.......I ended up in a family with lots of land, all of it bermuda grass and cow pies........at least they have family tradition of shooting clay birds at Thanksgiving......several gas wells but no mineral rights....but she is good enough to keep without the extras.....

Hi Ratty,

Keep the cool hunting photo's coming. It's all the hunting I will see this year. My middle boy is in Ceder Park, TX maybe I should send him your way;), he'll be 26 on the 24th of this month. He shot his first Buck when he was 12, it was an off hand shot at about 100 yards with a lever action 308....he made his Pop proud that day!

Great pics! Looks like that is somewhere in the Hill Country.

The kids and I will begin soon on our assault on the deer and pigs. I should be out bowhunting myself as I'm an avid bowhunter (helped start a wildly popular bowhunting website here in Texas), but I just haven't been able to squeeze away. Not to mention October bowhunting in south Texas isn't always that fruitful.

Hope to see more pics from you!
