First impression of PM2...I understand the hype

Honestly, a Paramilitary 2 was never even on my radar. I figured it would always be out of stock, so no reason to get attached to something I can't have, right?

Then just a few days ago I was killing some time on BladeHQ. I was looking through the folding knives, and I clicked the Spyderco brand page. Lo and behold, below the Paramilitary 2 was "Add to Cart". I glanced over it and went to the next page, then something felt odd so I went back to the page. There it was again, "Add to Cart". I clicked the button.

Fast forward to today, and I have my new favorite EDC knife. Hands down the sharpest factory edge I've ever seen. Rock solid lockup, blade is dead centered, and that compression lock sure is interesting. I love the big handle with the smaller blade, it really feels like I have great control of the knife without having a ridiculously large blade.

Has anyone else stumbled across a popular store that just happened to have a PM2 in stock at the time?

It's my favorite folder of all time. I've owned over twenty, the majority of which were super-steels. Most of them are gone now in order to pay the credit-card bill. But I still love 'em. When you press the compression lock and the blade falls freely back into the handle...well, there's nothing else quite like it.
The PM2 still has an interesting future. I understand that Sal is ramping up production, and when and if that happens, the street price of these super-steels may just begin to fall like a rock. I might be wrong; some of the limited Sprint-runs of S90V's and CTS-20CP may hold their much-inflated prices, but...supply and demand will win out in the long run. That's a good thing for users; not so good for collectors.
Ah...speculation...

I have two, a once outta the box orange/silver, and a black/black user. Of my 45-50 one hand folders, it's the best knife I own and I've yet to find one better. Congrats!

I got ridiculously lucky and was able to buy from from a local human knife/shave shop right before they closed. It was the only knife shop in my area, and because I like to handle knives and support local merchants, in some cases feeling a knife in hand made me not want it. He had 1 camo handle/black blade knife at close to full retail, and then I found out they were moving to a new location, so I offered him something like 110, well under the 170 asking, and he took it. Now I'll go to his new store, out of the way, because I want to support the guy. Sorry, but I miss having knife shops around, and it makes me sad that a fella can't easily pick up a pm2 if desired... Sorry for rambling, not a popular store, but yes, and it was awesome.

I got mine about a month ago because of a dealer's facebook notification prior to listing on their site. And thanks to its awesome factory edge, I get to type one handed for the next week or so :D ... Also I have stumbled across in stock PM2's at BHQ twice in the last 3 weeks.

The best folding knife in the world if you talk about what you get for the money.

The PM2 is a great mix of features that just comes together in a great total package for a very good price point, though lately with demand it's been harder to find them under $150. It's light, thin, good blade shape, good edge holding and easy to sharpen, very ergonomic handle, good jimping, non-liner, clip position options, colors/blade steel options, there isn't any one thing I can point to but it finds it's way into my pocket a lot more than anything else lately. If they transferred the clip options and the lock to the Military I'd buy one in a heart beat.

I think a big part of the success of the PM2 is it convinced a lot of people that wanted a tactical knife to buy something much better suited to their actual everyday cutting needs with the tactical look. That's not to say the PM2 would not serve that purpose, but I know a lot of guys that had bigger, heavier, thicker knives that didn't cut worth a crap for 99.9% of their daily needs. Once they tried a PM2 they were hooked and have been since. It's one of those knives that could very well push future market trends.

Well put ToddM. If one was required to criticize the PM2, it might be the blade:handle ratio, yet the shape of the blade "cuts" larger than its measured length. Nobody required me to criticize the PM2, but I for one wouldn't mind seeing a small squared profile at the spine towards the rear to facilitate a sharpener grip for a guided rod system such as the Wicked Edge, Lansky, KME, etc. True FFG can be made to work, but it's considerably easier with a flat stock section.

Where's this new store?? I'm very near the bay area.

What I see on Amazon is backordered for 1-3 months.

And when something is "backordered for 1-3 months" that's basically code for "we don't have any in stock, and don't really know when we will, so we'll just throw out an estimate a fair ways off, and hopefully some will come in by then".

I sold my all black PM2 2 months ago and I kinda miss it. Anyhow production should be back to normal by December or earlier hopefully. If I do get another PM2 I would love a sprint run with some exotic steel.
