Just got home from work and found a spyderco tenacious in my mail box from a recent forum transaction.. THis is a "low end" knife from spyderco. I recieved this and a Endura. These are my only spydercos at the moment. THey will not be the last. The tenacious can be found online for approx 35-45 dollars, so I wasnt expecting much, but dang.. THis is a solid little bugger. Zero blade play, stout liner lock, smooth action, a nice wide blade, and it feels like it was made for my hand. THis little puppy has a g10 handles with a stainles steel skeleton liner. which keeps it light but makes it feel solid, THe steel is something I'm not familiar with. 8Cr13MoV but it is honed to a full flat grind and easily shaves and push cuts paper. It seems to me to be the poor man's version of the paramilitary (a near future acquisition) I haven't had time to put it through the paces yet but will do so over the weekend. I did shave some fine fuzzies and feather stick with it but that's about it.. I'll write a more comprehensive review after I've given it some use..

Very cool, nice to hear

I have my first folding Spyderco, a Delica, on its way and expect to be pleasantly surprised as well :D

Cool Beans..I think the Endura is nice as well. but I'll probably try to swap it for a delica. endura is a little to big for me.

IMHO the Tenacious is like the love child of a Military and Manix... making it one of the coolest new Spyderco designs.. It's a great knife...

I like mine. I've been holding onto to it forever, and finely put it to use. It survived a few hard spine whacks as well. It is very light weight. The blade has lots of belly.

I was under the impression that the steel is carbon. But it didn't stain. Maybe its high carbon stainless. However, I did get a good spark w/ the firesteel, enough to light tinder.

BTW, it is very good quality for a Chinese made knife. Best I've seen come out of tha country.

For some reason I got a jester and stopped there, it's a great little knife. That looks like a great second spydie.

it's one of the sharpest factory knives i've ever had. top five, easily.

I purchased a Yenacious about 6 weeks ago abd was soo impressed that I ordered 3 more to give to friends. I REALLY like the flat grind and the steel seems to hold a pretty good edge. I have been using it as my EDC and have not been disappointed. I did switch the clip to the other end, but that is all.

I am very impressed and pleased

The Tenacious is a great knife!
I've been using mine daily since i got it a month or so ago.
I like it better than my Endura and my Copilot.
Love the flat grind and the lack of choil.
Seems like it should be a very good bush-craft-y folder.
Hopefully it will stay in the Spyderco lineup forever.
But just in case I'm definitely buying a spare.
(That is after i get a Byrd Wings).
:)

Spyderco makes great folders... I'm really curious about the para military, or the military, but I'm not sure what a compression lock is.

Never used a spyderco folder, but certain models are appealing to me. Neat review!

What ever happened to that bushcraft knife they were going to start making??

Thanks for posting, I have been eyeing up this knife for a month or so. Looking forward to the weekend review!

I just sold an Endura, took a hit for it on evilbay, I didn't like the skinny "neck" area. I have large hands and wanted a little more to clamp down on. I like my Native, but just want a new folder... :-)

Got a Tenacious... quite a while ago now, I guess. Went with the SE version, which I regret. Don't use it nearly as much because of that. It's a good, sound little knife though. Mine has been mostly relegated to cutbait duty, it chops up little bluegill and green sunfish like butter and the SE keeps the edge longer when getting through the scales.

The steel they use is actually a stainless steel, but from what I've heard it stains a bit more easily than others. Never had problems with mine, but then again, for those of us used to using O1 keeping any steel that is remotely "stainless" from corroding is pretty darn easy.

...but I'm not sure what a compression lock is.

A compression lock is like a liner lock, only it locks the tang from the top, where a lock-back would engage the tang, instead of the bottom, as in most liner locks. It's a really great design and one of my favorite locks.

Orange handled one is the UK Pen Knife. An amazing slipjoint design, I have the bladk handled version. Has an incredible lock up for a slip joint.
The Tenacious looks great. I have a large number of Spydies and overall I like the Millie best, followed closely by the Endura, they are hard to beat in a folder.

I got my first and only Spyderco earlier this year. It is one of the Natives that were being sold at Wal-mart. Nothing really special or fancy about it but it is a great knife and a real pleasure to use.

RescueRiley,
Glad to hear you are pleased. Our Compression lock is a small piece of metal that is inserted, from the side, in between the blade tang and the stop pin (or anvil pin). It's one of the strongest locks we make. Maybe the attached image will help. Not quite like the Liner Lock on the Millie.

We're still working on the Bushcraft knife. We're not necessarily known for our speed :o, but it'll be right when it's released. Should see it in '09. I've had two prototypes with me at recent shows, they've been very well received.
