O.K. The postman ringed just about 2 hours ago and bring me my new sirupati. Hooray!!!
I got to pay taxes (10$) not so bad as I expected.

First impressions:
Blade :excellent, looks quite hard, not too much sharp, but I like to sharpen my knives myself. Cho creep - but that doesnt mean nothing bad
Pommel : the brass needed better fit, so I did it at once
Brass on blade : it has filler from black stuff, like epoxy - dremmel tool will remove this
Handle : marks and scratches everywhere, I sanded it all out, then with 0000 steel wool, then 3 coats of linseed oil
Tools : did the same with wood as with handle

Scabbard : good work, but the brass on tip needs some working

Things to do :
Buff handle with mineral paste and some carnauba wax
Buff brass
Sharpen blade properly
Remove filling out of the brass (only visible part)

Anyway good piece of knife, faster than my sax, heavier also, cuts very fast, but more control needed to stop chop. Sirupati certainly DOES look like something for choping people, rather than for wood. :) Its just an immediate impression of weapon.
Handle rather average, but its good. (I like thicker handles on tools, but have small hands)

Hawkwind?

Congratulations and an excellent summary of a "new blade" conditioning.

I hope you have many safe hours playing with your Sirupati.

Usually, the "stopping" of the blade in a chop is the responsibility of the "target" of the blade. :D

Watch your legs and fingers.

Be well and safe.

Ahh...HI - The original kit knife, ready for you to make your own!

Hmm...wonder if it'd be faster than my flute. Bruise - don't you have a trombone we could test it against? :D

What time zone is this? How could the Post deliver today?
Some blades, well, most really, don't need any thing. A few need some small work, and of course all can be improved to fit the individual owner.

I've been buying blems that don't need anything for so long I forgot about the ones which need a little TLC.

I think Hawkwind is not living in the US, hence the shipping and potsal delivery today.

Well, I wouldn't mind seeing the US government slog up my hill to deliver a new khukuri today. I would thank them.

Out of the 4 deliveries the USPS has made to my home recently, they only bothered to come up the driveway once that I know of. (Left notice on door, like UPS always does.) The rest of the time they left it in the mailbox at the end of the driveway. The last time, I was actually home at the time they left it in my mailbox (without ever having even bothered to come up the driveway) and my suspicions were confirmed.

When I went to the post office to take delivery, I mentioned this to the clerk I spoke to.

"Oh," she said. "It says they couldn't find the house."
"Of course they couldn't find the house," I said. "They didn't come up the driveway. The house is at the end of the driveway."
"Maybe they didn't see the driveway?" she asked.
"Actually, he was blocking it while putting that notice in my mailbox," I answered.
"That's probably why he didn't see it," she said.

Oh, well. That's government employees for ya. ;) :p I'd probably blow off Saturday deliveries too if I was working for them. :)

At least he put it in your box instead of taking it his house. I 'lost' some knives in the mail recently...
