First khukri

Hi,

If you want to bring the knife to the woods, please also consider whether you bring only the knife itself or together with other equipments.

I often go trekking in the jungle of Vietnam or go mountain climbing. I'm just I have a backpack about 7-8kgs in weight with a camera set on my neck. A knife weighing 650g is sufficient for me (without scabbard weight). It still can clear the springy on the trekking way, can use to clear bush, and still have sufficient weight to chop down a tree of my arm's size for fire wood or cleaning up ground for the tent. The pointed peak is also good for preparing food like opening the tummy of a chicken.

I'm just about the standard size of Asian. If the knife is too heavy, it would deplete my energy. If it's too light, I cannot do much with that. Last year I brought the 21" chitlang along, it was too heavy and became my burden later on.

I see black villager finish is delivering its effectiveness in my case. I dont have to worry much about rust. Just need to carry a small piece of 400 grit sand paper and a piece of cotton soaked with oil. All wrapped in a zip plastic bag. Then it's enough.

I havent touched the Gelbu Special but I think a 18" GBS would fit me.

I hate the Customs in my country. They dont let me import knives any more. To relieve me from this "khuk fever", I'm working with a local black smith to produce a customised khukuri for me. We cant do much on the carvings or cosmetics, just leave it as villager finish. He forged 03 blades but I'm just happy with only one.

Knowing that this is the HI corner, if everyone allows, I'll post the pix to share with you this happiness of mine. I'm not doing business in knife and have no intention to get profit from knife. The only purpose I want is just to satisfy my desire for the khuk in the situation of Customs said above.

All the best to Auntie and you all!

Alright right now i cant decide. Does anyone have both a GS and a Chitlangi who can compare and contrast all of the features that you can think of?

I always chime in with a recommendation for a WWII. My very first HI was an 18" WWII. It still is my favorite and the one that gets the most use, although I have not fought any Zombies with it.

Why is it my favorite? Well, it works great, but more importantly, 5 or so years ago when I joined this site I emailed Uncle Bill and lost out on a DOD. He responded and we had a couple of emails and said that he recommended the WWII and had one that would be perfect for me. He was right. :)

I don't think anyone has a problem with you posting it, just do it in the Cantina.
