Rough ground out of NJSteelBaron 1084 with an angle grinder:

After forging and cleaning up a bit:

Lots of hand filing and grinding:

Semi-finished after attaching a cobobolo/curly maple handle; I've actually done more work to it at this point but this is close.

Since then I actually went back and dropped the tip down on it a bit, flattened out the the spine, reduced the curvature of the blade, etc. This took a TON of work once it was hardned, but live and learn.

All in all it cuts fairly well and I'm happy with it as a first effort, but I realized about 100 things I should have done differently - most importantly, take more stock off before HT!

Thanks for all the advice and help given to me on this forum thus far!

I'd love to see pictures of the final profile. The handle is gorgeous, and what you described as adjustments should make it work really well.

That was a great progression Steve. The final knife looks pretty darn good for your first. Looking forward to more!

Until someone is actually there, they have no idea how much harder it is to do anything major post HT. Even something as simple as getting out a sanding scratch or two they left in from a lower grit sandpaper is a pain in the butt. But you learned the most important and ongoing lesson of making a knife: Every knife will teach you something different from the previous ones.

Looks really good so far  looking forward to seeing more.

This isn't technical or anything, but I like the aesthetics of this knife. Manly kitchen slicer.
