Hello everyone. I've been reading and reading and reading on these forums learning a lot. and I've finally decided to bring my idea to life. I am by no means an expert lol but I am look for constructive criticism and tips and trick and areas that I could improve. this knife is from 01 tool steel and the handle is made from micarta that I made my self and it is pined with 1/8 brass pins.

I believe you are off to a good start. I think it's great that besides doing the blade you made the micarta.

Hard to tell without more pictures but nevertheless it a great start. Better than my first.

Things I can see right away are that the edge seems to be pretty thick and the arc of the belly has a bit awkward transition. And it seems the plunge is biting into the spine but i cant quite tell.

Keep at it:thumbup:

Thanks a lot for the compliments and the pointers. I did have problems with the plunge. I'm not sure what you mean the belly transition. Are you referring to the curve at the point of the knife where it meets the straight part of the blade?

Other than what's been stated the only thing I see is the front pin is to close. I'm still new and one of things I struggle with is pin placement. I want the front and rear pin to be the same distance from the end of the handle. I try to lay out everything before I grind( plunge line, handle shape, pin placement. If the plunge line moves back, as it seems to do with me, then where I stop the handle changes also. When the handle changes, my pin placement does also. I drill a couple holes in a row(front to back) so if I need to I can bring the front pin back. The knife overall looks good. The little details, like fit and finish, are the difference between a good knife and a great knife. As you make more these things will jump out at you. Keep it up and get ready, it's very addictive!

What I mean is it looks like it cant tell whether it wants to be a tanto or a spearpoint.

The edge on this knife is very sharp. I don't like the look of the bevel on my knives so I wanted to eliminate it as much as possible and this is the only way I thought of how to do this. I did the bevel and blended it in with the rest of the knife and added the secondary edge. The knife tapers from the spine to the edge sorry for the poor quality picture. Is there any other way to put an edge on my blades without seeing the bevel? I looked at a convex grind but is that possible to run all the way to the spine and would it look right?

For a first knife this is impressive! I am doing my first knife as well. The convex question from last week, look up Ed Fowler's thoughts. He has an article every month for Blade Magazine, and he does radius/convex profiles on all of his. He has a couple of books out, and his stuff is very informative.

Thank you very much.
