First knife and what age?

My father gave me knives long before I was 5, but I did not start to carry on a regular basis until I was 5 years old.

That knife was a promotional gift to my father by a salesman, and it was a real strange folder.

It was all steel. The blade folded sideways into a u-shaped handle and then a another piece of metal rotated over that. The style must have a name, but I have no idea what it is, and I have not seen one for decades.
I gave the knife to my grandson.

That style of knife is called a "funny folder." A.G. Russel still sells them, I believe. They were widely used as promotional knives due to the wow factor of how they fold.

I was seven when I got my Camillus Cub Scout knife. For a first knife I would definately go with a SAK or similar multi tool at about age seven or eight, with proper instructions in knife safety of coarse.

6 years old and got an imperial BSA camp knife. still have it and use it, can opener has started many a meal and bottle opener many a beer.

That evolved into the rc-3 or zpd-189 delica I carry now.
Rc-3 has also been a handy can opener ;)

I think my first knife I got was a boy scout knife at age 8. I think alot depends on the how responsible the child is.

he first knife that i remember was a boy scout knife from belks and then it was on from there. my youngest son actually was the knife collector and got me interested in them again.

currently trying to acquire some from my grandfathers collection and my great grandfather was a blacksmith in sc and i would love to have some of the knives that he made...
