here is my first knife...
d2, white micarta, mosaic pins...

a few things i learned... I need to get silicon carbide belts, micarta is nearly impossible to sand on a belt grinder, and quenching d2 in water will warp the blade!!!:D:D

Nice first knife.
Next knife work on the blade finish a bit more.

A tip on using mosaic rivets - Align them up the same way. Yours are off angle to each other. Also ,new makers tent to set then as a square. Set them as a diamond (corners at 12-3-6-9) they look much fancier that way.

Keep up the good work.

The blade finish seems a little rough, but the knife itself has very smooth and clean lines that I like.

Looks nice and very functional too !

About the handle - if you want plain white handles, consider Dupont Corian. There's outfit on the Web that sells smaller pieces in just the right thickness. Somewhere in upstate NY methinks. Very inexpensive.

About hand rubbed blade finish - looks like you used too coarse of abrasive. Normally, "scratch" lines are parallel to the lengthwise direction of the knife and don't curve . If u clamp the blade down, you can fashion a simple "guide" by clamping down next to it a piece of wood. Before hand-rubbing, the blade still has to be polished to mirror finish.

The most important advice is>>>>>>>>>drum roll please................................

Do not get rid of this one. Don't sell it...Don't give it away....Don't lose it....etc.

Keep it. Trust me, no matter how much money you're offered, you'll still regret it if you don't keep it.

This is from someone who knows!

That's a fine lookin knife BladeFan, you should be proud!
I don't understand why you're having problems sanding micarta on a belt grinder?
Grind the handles slack belt and you can get a nice rounded over effect that really feels good in the hand. Always worked for me anyway. :D

Thanks all for the advice, encouragement and support!!
I am looking forward to applying the advice to my next project!
