First knife could use some guidance

So I got a little over zealous with the rasp and did the damage shown around the thong, then got a little over zealous and wizz - wheeled my pin until it got red hot and left the burn mark. Can anything be done besides sanding down past the damage? Thanks in advanced for any help.

I think HAND sanding is your best option. You can control the speed of removal a lot better and it won't get hot enough to burn. Also the grit will be fine enough even at 120x or so that it won't tear out pieces. Once the damage is gone progress up the grits until the finish is where you want it. Don't forget to remove the same amount from the other side.

Thanks i4Marc. I sanded past the burned damage and am going to have to fill in the chips around the thong with CA and sanding dust due to depth.
