Tell him he did a great job on it. It had to make you feel good helping him and guiding him. Can you get some closer pics of the knife??
Make sure he takes a pic of his Dad opening the Knife. That is a Moment he will want to remember forever.

Yeah, tell your newbie that he did good! And so did you, for helping another into the fold. I know how hard it is to work with someone who doesn't know how to go about making. It takes patience (a different kind of patience than making knives does) and a willingness to set your own shop time aside. Thanks for sharing, both your student's happiness and your own time.
 
Looks pretty daRn good for a first knife! Only one thing I see missing, where's all the bandaids from making the first knife? ;) People taking time to help people, its what makes the world go round.
