hey guys! so i just finished my first knife and im pretty exited. i was worried about my heat-treat because of the before mentioned dilemma (link below)...

http://knifedogs.com/showthread.php?27206-heat-treating-1084

however it came out ok (i think) and the heat treat seems to have taken... i was able to use this blade all weekend camping, and i even filled my hat with shavings to start a fire, after which i was still able to pop hairs...i dont know if decarb is going to be a problem, but if it passed the ol' file test, and holds an edge after a weekend of solid use i should be ok right?

any way here she is...any insight is appreciated...

Very nice,

What kind of wood is that?

Very nice. I like the plain look and the nice grind. Can't wait to see more knives and pics (hint :D).

That looks really nice, especially for a first knife! It looks a lot like the Hedgehog Leatherworks Blackbird SK5 bushcraft knife, Which maybe you modeled it after? Anyway, very nice!

thanks guys!

the wood is from a piece i got out of the scrap pile at my bro's house, he lays hardwood flooring, i dont know what it is but its super hard and came out of some guys million dollar house so i figured hey, its good enough for me!

Its made out of 1/8" 1084 and is 8" over-all with a 3 3/4" blade...as for the "blackbird sk5", never heard of it...

...more to come!!!

That's gorgeous! First knife AND a mark? Wow. Can't wait to see numbers 2 and 3. :)
