First knife for my son

First knife....sweet

Mine was at age 7, parents gave me a cub scout knife with my uniform on my birthday, and I will always remember that!
Second knife was a couple years later, a Buck 500.

I gave our son a Buck 501 and Leatherman Wave. He loves and uses them both.

For a Boy Scout, I would go for a nice Buck Folder and a Leatherman, the Scouts do say to "Be Prepared".
And both of those companies have great warranties!

Currently I belt carry a 277 Buck Alpha Folder more often than any other, thumbstud, liner lock 3 1/2" blade, and tough as nails.

Since childhood I have these multi-tools, and honestly the only thing I use is the blade and scissors.
I think no substitute for a fixed blade.
Here in Brazil the Scouts have rules for the size of the blades, do not know his coutry.
As a first knife I suggest Ontario "Ranger Falcon", or similar.

I would get him a Victorinox Swiss Army Knife. I think the Tinker or the larger Adventurer are great everyday knives. The one handed Trekker (plaiin edge) is a goode knife but it is a bit thicker in the pocket than I like. As far as multitools go, I have a SOG powerlock, a Gerber something or other, and a Victorinox Spirit. I carry the Vic. The SOG is a good multitool also. Never owned a leatherman tool. I seldom use a multitool as a knife.

I'll second the buck knife. I've got a buck 55 that I'm going to give my son when he's ready. It's a very solid little knife and it's classy too.

But, a leatherman tool is definitely nice too :)
