First knife of 2014! Pearl content inside.....

Ken --while i agree with you regarding a preference for black lip MOP, correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the black lip oysters grow too small to get enough usable handle material to haft a knife of this size?

A little off topic, but I'm curious.

Seth

No, I think there is probably no way to have found good black-lip that big. I just don't really like MOP and would certainly like the knife better with some other material - even a beautiful wood. I only mentioned black-lip to kind of explain that I do not dislike ALL pearl. Just MOP. Again, nothing but personal taste. The knife is fantastic regardless, of course.

Personally I am a fan of white MOP. I especially like it with gold accents, and Kyle nailed it with the choice of gold pins. I have seen and heard that white MOP doesn't sell as fast in the aftermarket- but if you like pearl you know it has to be white on a big knife. You have many more options with folders so if it were a folder I'd choose black or brown lip. In my collecting, I want to start using White MOP on some orders for fixed blades, as frankly I am sick of worrying about ivory. Even large pieces of the white stuff are getting scarce.

I never liked gold lip for some reason.

Kyle this seems a bit different for you. Never seen you do the West Texas Wind, and the blade has a different flow then I am used to on your designs- with that sweeping clip. Nice change of pace.

Great looking knife Kyle. Younger brother seems to have gotten the photography down pat. I love the MOP and this whole package just hollers loudly -- ART Knife!! Very impressive.

In addition to all the well deserved praise, the only thing I can say is BEST BOWIE 2014.

Marcel

His talent is endless Kyle! Photograph your brother is awesome!

Congratulations to both!

I don't care for Damascus, I don't like clamshell guards, I like clamshell pommels even less and putting them all together would, in my mind, be something I REALLY wouldn't want to even see.

But this piece is absolutely stunning!

Kyle, I think your love for engraving pulled it together in my mind (what little is left of it). And if you love engraving, don't stop.

Kyle, I'd say Jerry should be worried this year. I wish I were there to check it out.
Can Caleb post a closer shot? Cant appreciate the details

Absolutely stunning knife! There isn't anything I would change, except it's delivery destination...wish it was coming my way!:)

Thank you all so much for all the kind compliments and words. I'm so glad it's liked so well. I really appreciate all your thoughts and ideas.

Yes Jon, this was the first time I've made the West Texas Wind pattern. I do best with mosaics and such normally. I've always had a hard time with ladders for some reason and this was no exception. After a couple tries I was able to get it to come out how I wanted. :) I think the next time I go and do a ladder it will be much easier for me.

Bruce, Caleb is working on some detail shots of the bowie right now in fact. I'll post them up next week on this thread when he's finished working on them.

Thanks again everyone,

Kyle

I love a pearl handed bowie, and this is one of the nicest I have ever seen. Spectacular.

Just a superb knife, Kyle! I can't wait to see Caleb's detail shots. Plus, so glad you will have this in LR. So much to see in one piece. Fantastic work!
