Guys, I've been on the forum for awhile now, following the ability and progress of better men than I, and gaining enthusiasm and inspiration. The works of Andy Roy, Dylan Fletcher, Dan Koster, Rick Marchand, Matt Bailey, Tom Krein, RyanW, Sam Eddleman, Talfuchre, and many others have all been instrumental in causing me to spend quite a bit of money and time on knives, tools, and materials along the way! :)

The result so far is 4 completed knives, and 5 more off at heat treat! My day job gets in the way, badly! I am, however, living the dream when I do get a chance to work on them. I don't anticipate setting myself up to sell knives very often, and will give most of them as gifts to friends and family - but at times I will have an extra or two and will put them up here. It would be nice if they helped pay for some of this expensive obsession of mine! :)

If you buy one, I would ask that you give me the benefit of your feedback as soon and as often as possible. I'm a newbie, so I'm sure that you folks will be able to provide much-needed constructive criticism.

All that having been said, here is my third knife and the first one ever to be listed. It is made of 1/8 thick 01 Tool steel from Metrics Unlimited, designed and ground to shape by me. The blank was heat treated to 56-58 at Peter's Heat Treat. I gave it a Marchand-style etch using blueing and bleach, and a Brown Canvas Micarta handle with Black Micarta pins and SS lanyard tube all attached with slow-set epoxy. The Scandi edge is at 12.5 degrees and taken to 220 grit with a light strop on cardboard, and the swedge is not sharp.

Overall length is 7.25 inches, and 3.5 inches from tip to scale. Blade profile is 1.62 from edge to spine, and handle belly is 1.25 from top to bottom. Handle scale width is .81 at it's thickest. It comes with a modest kydex rig - my abilities in that respect are improving....slowly! It's a clean, usable rig, good retention, with a large teklok that can be oriented for vertical or horizontal carry.

This one does not have a maker's mark of any kind, because I haven't figured out what it should be OR how it should be applied!

It will ship to you by Priority Mail, with Delivery Confirmation and payment by Paypal is preferred.

Price is $145 shipped.

Thanks for looking!

These are damn nice looking knives....original looking also. I'll definitely be watching you and if funds are available, I'll be buying one.

Really nice, very impressive work, but it is a little hard to see what it looks like in terms of size and shape. If you get a chance an in hand shot and a simple side shot would help. Congrats on a very nice knife!

Those look like they are fitted up very nicely. The scale of them is a little hard to judge from the photos (something that has been pointed out in my own), a straight profile pic with a common object thrown in as a scale prop might help clarify the proportions to prospective buyers.
Definitely on the ball for your third knife!

Nice Work !! We all have the dream of making our own blades..But it is still fun to buy them..Love the handle and the beefy blade.

Ha! Thanks guys! The Jade knife went to another home earlier today, and the Brown Micarta knife is now sold, as well. I'm glad you like them, and I'm partial to the Jade design - so it will be back! Many thanks!

Nice work Chainring !!!, cant wait to see your progress & next offrering :thumbup:, Thanks for sharing :D:D

Awesome Chainring! I am a newbie as well, get ready for the ride!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Holy cow, beautiful work bro! Congrats! What other styles are hiding up your sleeve? I bet you could make a mean scandi Bushcrafter.

Thanks for the encouragement! I appreciate the kind reception! I've got 5 blanks out at heat treat right now, all of them going to be gifts for family/friends unless I goober up and have to start over! Playing with blade shapes and blade/handle angles a bit, along with a couple traditional shapes. One of them is for big handed folks - too big for me, but I thought I'd see how it turns out. It sure is fun to be able to relatively accurately reproduce a knife design that is floating around in my head. I really need to go back and try the convex saber grind again, though. I love scandi, but I want to be able to do what the style of the knife calls for....some just seem to need more than the scandi grind. I did a paper thin flat grind on one, but for all I know it's going to warp like a sonofagun in heat treat. And I need to do some reading about how to create a sweeping plunge...or plunges in general! The more I learn, the more I realize I don't know! :)

Here's a pic from last week of a few of the blanks that are off at HT right now...thinkin' of whipping out a couple more ideas to mail out tomorrow!

Too much handle for me, but perfect for a buddy.

Between the variety of grinders today and the amazing variety of steels, handle materials, and inspiration available on forums like this, now is a great time to be learning this stuff! Thanks, guys!

Bugbear, I'm getting Delivery Failure notifications when I try to repond to your email, sorry about that. Yes, there will be more similar to the brown micarta knife along the way. I have a soft spot for wider blades at times, and the handle design on that one turned out to feel really nice. For a relatively short handle, it fit the hand in any grip without hot spots. I will be revisiting that design at times. Between the 6 kids, country living chores, working at my day job, and helping my folks build a house, I'm not in a position to make lists or take "orders" (how strange that sounds!) but anything I make will show up here first. Well, anything I make that turns out well! :) Bladeforums is directly responsible for getting all this rolling, and I am grateful for that.
