Hey guys, so I am currently saving up money to take the next step in knife fanaticism and spend over $100 I'm a folding knife. I'm 17 and still somewhat inexperienced in knives and wanted to hear what the forums have to say. So I wanted a knife that could do it all. Edc, tatical, and be tough enough to take a seriously beating and last forever, and also be a fun knife. So naturally I'm looking into the manix 2. Now since there are so many versions of this knife I wanted to know what you guys recommend. I really like the black doc with the g10 because it's lighter than the satin but I dont like how much more expensive it is. Also is the lightweight version as strong as the g-10 version? I'm really into heavy duty knives, but am sick of the alluminum threads stripping on my cold steels. So what do u guys think? Sorry for the long post

G10 Manix 2 fits the roll perfectly, as long as you don't mind the weight (5 oz if I recall). I don't own a Manix 2 LW, but I know the handle material is the same as my Native 5 LW, and I wouldn't trust it for hard use, but it would be great for moderate EDC tasks. If 5 oz is too much, look into the s110v G10 variant, using the "blurple" scales, it weighs in at 4.2 oz because it uses milled out steel liners.

Manix 2 S110V. At around $130, you get an awesome steel, blurple G10, skeletonized liners and the tried and true Ball Bearing Lock.

Plain jane G-10 Manix 2 is my workhorse. Tough as nails, great ergos, cuts like a laser. Never owned a LW, but if you desire toughness I'd definitely get a G-10 version.

Another one to look at would be the HK 14715. Great value in this guy for right at $100. Benchmade built, D2 steel, full steel liners. Very tough all around knife.

A Manix is a great choice for what you describe.
My own preference is definitely the Manix XL.

I would go with the G-10 S110V. Well worth the extra cost. I am not a fan of the standard S30V.

I have the sprint run foliage green G-10 with CTS-XHP. I have ironwood scales by sketchen on it.

Go for the Blurple G10 Manix in S110v. I have both the normal satin/S30v Manix, and the G10 S110v Manix. Because of the skeletonized liners, and some better F&F, the S110v version is a completely different knife.
Either way, you cant really go wrong, the Manix is a great knife that will probably outlast you.:)

The Manix line are great knives...pick the steel and weight that works best for you and enjoy the blade! Welcome to the addiction :)

Dont get the S110V unless you have a serious sharpening system. Id recommend you just get the S30V as its decently easy to sharpen and holds the edge good enough. As for the Lightweight versions they are strong enough for normal tasks and they are pinned together so you wont be able to take them apart. Nice to see another young fellow here! Im 16 and waiting for my ZT0562 to arrive which i have saved for a couple months to be able to afford haha

I went for the Cruwear sprint (love the light gray scales, skeletonized liners, and reasonably tough steel,) but these can be a little harder to find now and usually have a markup on the secondary market.

S110V gets a lot of love for its extreme wear resistance, but depending on what you mean by a serious beating it may not be my first choice. It's generally not a steel you want to try to chop or pry with, for example, but in ordinary cutting chores it appears to hold up well and reports of issues seem to be rare.

Like Glenn said, if you are a novice sharpener, there may be a bit of a learning curve to climb with s110v vs. something like BD1 or even s30v. It's not insurmountable though.

Welcome to the forum!.

Thanks for all of the answers guys! So I'm definitely going to jump for a g-10 variant of the Manix. I think I want to go with the black on black with the DLC blade. Compared to the standard Manix, I believe that the black version has skeletonized liners as well as the Blurple? I also like the S30v for being easier for me to sharpen. I'm actually a decent sharpener but I think making the jump from CTS-XHP to s110v is probably a big jump. thanks for all the advice!

S30v black on black does not use skeletonized liners. The only models that do are the sprint runs and the s110v.

Alright, so I've narrowed it down to the sprint run and the black DLC version, both in g-10. Its nice that the Sprint run is lighter due to the skeletonized liners but at the same time I'm no stranger to a heavy 5oz knife. (Currently carrying a 4 inch Talwar that is 5oz) I like that the Black version has a blacked out pocket clip and doesn't reflect so much light. I also like the s30v steel for sharpening and the all black just looks cool. I'm kind of talking myself into the black one as I'm writing this Haha but if you guys think that the Blurple one is built to a higher quality I will still give it a look.

Alright, black on black it is then! Time to start saving the penny's! Thanks everyone for the recommendations and helping me narrow it down to one Manix. I will post pictures when I have the knife, which will likely be awhile since I have to save up. I'm sure it will be worth every penny! :)
