First Knife Profiled. Now what?

This is my first attempt at making a knife. I'm using Aldo 1084 and came up with this profile. Since I haven't purchased a sander, I'll be using files/sandpaper to make a full flat grind. A couple questions:

1. What is the best way to make flat grinds with a file? File lengthwise?

2. Best way to scribe a centerline?

3. Do the edges of the profile need to be smooth, or can I do that later?

Thanks.

Yes clean the profile up - get it close.
You can use a small drill bit to do center line, scribe flip scribe, you will have two lines.
That is what you want - but they will be center.
File across - not length wise.

The secret is time - take your time and enjoy it. Don't rush it and try and finish it in one day......
You will learn as you go - read every thing you can.

Good luck - it takes a lot of years and knives to get good at it.

I read the stickies that Stacy has linked above. Great info there.

Agreed, take your time and dont rush it.

Here is my first knife made from a Nickolson fat bastard using a Nickolson fat bastrard, lol...and lots of sandpaper.

Good luck and have fun with it.
