Its funny how at that age a particular girl will seem so significant. Just a few years later one has completely forgotten who that person was. How different it actually ends up being when you find the one you marry.Gerber mother of pearl and abolone scales. Made in Japan. Stainless lock blade.in the early 1980's I think it cost around 37+dollars. Expensive. I was around 10-12 years old.
My dad would drag me to local gun stores on the weekends. Dickering, and dealing ...(For what seemed like Hours)
I Had to be there. Id wander off, daydreaming, exploring, figuring out early stages of Life.
After Lots of saving, I bought That one.
Lost it hundreds of times in the washing machine. My mom would save it, keep it, hiding it from me to "teach me a lesson "
Years later I Think I gave it to my 8th grade girlfriend??? Part of me thinks that, part of me can't remember..... I don't remember her, but I remember that Knife.
Parts of me thinks/hopes it is still in my parents house, and I will find it when we clean it out when they are Gone.....
I bought an old beat up ka bar 1189 as a teenager. Somepoint in high school I bought a new buck 110 thinking i was upgrading. I was amazed at the bulk and lack of ergonomics of the 110. I dont think ive ever seriously carried or used that knife. Its lived in the drivers door panel of every car ive owned. Twice a year or so i sharpen and oil it.The first I picked out and bought with my own money was a Buck 110 ... bought at the local hardware store with some cash I got on my 10th birthday. I had it for several years and gave it to a buddy that needed a knife in our early 20s. He passed last year and the knife back returned home. It's kinda beat up (he wasn't a knife guy) and used it to hammer something ... and probably used it for lots of things that would have made me cringe. I'll have to try to remember to snap a picture, it lives in the top of one of my tool chests now.

I remember that game of losing knives. Just this past fall I couldnt find my 2nd gen spyderco police stainless for 3 months. I was checking the pawn shops figuring i dropped it at work when my wife found it shoved behind a book on the bookshelf.
The 110 fit my hand rather well. It is quite hefty, but in the belt sheath they come with I never thought about it.I bought an old beat up ka bar 1189 as a teenager. Ill take 12c27 or 13c26 over s30v everyday. Marketing sells. The first knife that was bought for me was the trusty old Cub Scout knife. Some years later, I received an Estwing knife and hatchet set, which I still have after countless moves and a couple of marriages.
But the first one I bought for myself was a Kershaw Blur in S30V. I really liked the looks of the knife, and after a good bit of research saw that S30V was about the best steel available on it at the time, so I figured it was a good place to start. Who knew the rabbit hole that would start me down.![]()
