Ok, so a while ago I posted a first knife thread....turns out I had a mislabeled bar and my first few were mild steel and that doesn't really count does it?
Anyway, in my frustration, I figured if I was going to make mistakes to learn I might as well make them all at once. I tried everything, even made a single bevel cable damascus and O-1 neck knife only to crack the core during final straightening.
It took time and the other attempts did not survive and this will be THE LAST 1095 I WORK WITH...EVER! Switching to cruforge v and 1084+ for everything...already had a way sub par welding operation with the stuff :grumpy: great start....

Anyway here it is!
san-mai of 1095 and mild steel..weld is clean but the etch is sloppy, handle is cocobolo and ebony with a red spacer. I don't have the most precise equipment but I do have a guidance of a MS and access to the metallurgy lab of a fortune 500 company...so no ovens but I'm comfortable with the toys I do have.
hrc ~61.5 and structure, while not perfect, is very fine and well past "adequate"

p.s. This community is awesome!
