Only sanded to 2000 bringing it my friends house to drill the holes and clean er up then heat treat it

Did you build the filing jig? In the photo it looks like the bevels are still a bit convex. Looking good though.

Sorry I haven't posted lately but I've been gone to some rodeos and I'm just about done my jig, I will post some pictures here asap

Mike, you should get a package end of this week, or early next week.

It was a knife a friend was working on, then decided to go with a different, thinner steel. I annealed it so it could be reprofiled into a more functional shape. I was going to do something with it, but thought of you when going through the shop. The lighter coloured wood is cactus juice stabilized rainbow poplar. The dark is black walnut, and the red is Honduras mahogany. The wedge shaped steel can be quickly made into a kiridashi.

What a generous community of folks. I'm always amazed at how great this community of knifemakers/bladesmiths is. Mike you are going to have a knife that will remind you of years to come about the group of people who shared (likely) over a hundred years of combined experience with you just in this thread.

I think Stacy has been making knives for at least 80 years or so .

Mike, just FYI- use the mahogany on light duty knives as it isn't very dense. I think I put an unstabilized piece in the package, as I found the stabilized piece I was going to send you under a newspaper  :grumpy:.

Oh man I hope so. I got my jig up and running, so far it's working great! I have my pins on order so I'm waiting for those to get here so I can drill my holes before heat treat. This is a picture of my jig with my next project on it. I figured I may as well get as many made before I hat treat so I can do them all in one fowl swoop

Fantastic! Take another look at that video. There are a series of holes in his jig for adjusting the bevel angle as you progress from a shallow bevel up towards the spine. Looks great though. You are on the road to being a knifemaker!

You can use welding of brazing rods for pins. They are pretty cheap that way, and there are many options for diameter.

Hey guys I'm just about to hop on a flight from Vancouver, had a rodeo out here and visited my in laws. I think I got got my father in law interested in building knives, score! But I'm trying to find some knife making supply shops out here by white rock, I was wondering if there was a spot he could drive to and pick up some material as I believe he's not that internet savvy

I think this is what I call the "most active" knife materials supplier in Canada, luck for you he is in Alberta, ,but I've no idea actually how close he is

Wait, No idea where white rock is, my drive way is full of rocks.
Where do you mean ?

there are quite a few people on BF from BC, maybe they know first hand.
Fastenal will sell precision ground D2 A2 and O1

In terms of pin material, you can get brass bronze, copper, stainless TIG rod, or fluxless brazing rod in any welding shop and some hardware stores.

Oh nice I'll check them out, he's in white rock british Columbia but I think he's more of a run to the store type than to order stuff online if ya know what I mean haha

Knife supplies are not as common in Canada. I get a lot of stuff from Rob and Marilyn at knifemaker.ca. Great people to deal with. If the FIL is really against online shopping, maybe order for him. My dad was computer illiterate a couple years ago, helped him pick out a laptop, and he is pretty good with the basics now and does some shopping online too.
