First Knife You Remember as a KID

First knife I actually bought was a cheap POS Rambo style survival knife with the hollow handle and the useless “survival kit” that came in the handle..lol

People who know tell me you can't remember anything at three years old; the mind's must not wired for it. But I remember being very young and looking up at even short old ladies (who must have been...oh, 38). Anyway, I reckon the first knife I actually owned was one my parents got me at a carnival. It was a Wild West sort of thing. Anyway, it had a leather sheath with those long leathery things hanging off, like the Indians used to have. The whole thing must have been a couple of inches, tops, but I had that knife for years.

I began wondering if most of you have kept your knives from way back or, like me, lost them or had 'em took. The knife I had was pretty hideous, but I still wish I had it. But I carried it for a long time, and to school.
Barlow 2 blade pocket knife with end bolster.

The very first knife I remember was my great grandpa's Case XX Stockman. He used to sit on the porch and whittle like Uncle Jed Clampett.

That knife also became my first knife when he got a new one and gave that old one to me! Wish I still had it...

Very first knife I remember was my Moms old tramontana machete and thinking to myself, "That's Jasons knife!!" and wondering how and why the heck did we have it? Years later found out she got it from her sister who picked it up from Mexico in the 80's. Remembering my Aunt, I know she got a kick out of having a machete like Jason's.😆

When I was 10 or so (maybe 1959 or so) I traded another kid my beloved slingshot for a Buck 110 with the brass bolsters you could hammer nails with.

Mine was a 1950's Colasse A.B.L. Belgian Military Sailors Knife, licensed copy of a WW2 British Sheffield sailors knife. Got it in the 70's when the Belgian Army sold off their stock. Lost it because i really had "anti weapon" parents who threw away every "weapon" i collected in the river. They even threw away my grandfathers knives i inherited as a kid from my grandmother. Bought one in new like condition last year for 10€. My parents "parenting skills" had the opposite effect because i ended up carrying a firearm professionally for a mayor part of my life.

I was 4. Before school anyway, 1955-56. Inherited a Barlow, 2-blade, with red scales. I wore and used that for years, I am thinking into Jr. High. Back then I also had it in school. The scales fell off, the clip-point snapped; and then, the pen blade shrank to a toothpick, then snapped. The bolsters were folded sheet metal that I would pinch back.

Can't remember what replaced it.

BTW, I remember a camping/vacation trip when I was 2.5. Hah!! I can't remember where now, but Mom recognized my description and knew the date.

Being a hillbilly from WV I honestly think my dad slipped a penknife in my diaper.
But honestly, it was a Tree brand stockman. I carried a stockman growing up.

If I recall, the first knife from my childhood was a kitchen knife! I get scolded at times for holding as my parents were concerned if I cut myself from it.

I was going into 5th grade in 1956 and travelling through El Paso. We walked across into Juarez, and I had one dollar to spend. I spent 75 cents on a smooth brown acrylic (or similar) stainless steel knife about 2 1/2 " blade length. Took it home to Louisiana and lost track of it a few years later. The seed was sown.

My first knife was a brand new Ulster ULSC5A Boy Scout knife and it was given to me by my parents when I joined the Cub Scouts. The first knife I bought myself was a new early 70's Buck 301. Funny story... I lost my Buck 301 while I was on a trip to my Aunt's house after owning it for about a year. I was crushed. Roughly 5 years later my Aunt called and told me they found my knife. Evidently she had sold her car and the new owners found the knife under the back seat. I was so happy to get my Buck 301 back... And it was in perfect condition.
