This is my first on the bottom and the 2nd on the top. I kept the first and gifted the 2nd.

I made these about 8mos ago from Aldo 1095 and heat treat by Peters.

Ok... I've got the break the flawless first knife trend.
First I made this with hand files from a saw blade. It was just enough to pique my interest and I didn't finish it. Normally I wouldn't even count it but I see too many pretty knives lol.

Next I bought real metal and discovered the magic of the belt sander. Again, I didn't really finish this one as well as I should have, all I wanted to do was start another one lol. I'm still a complete noob and that is the only knife I've completed so maybe I will go back and fix the flaws (The bolster is gouged and the handle needs some TLC)

Damn, I can see that for my first knife I really need to put forth my best effort to even remotely compare mine to others. Beautiful knives!

I was 15 when I made this. I didn't know anything at all about making knives. This was done 100% with a hammer (obviously).

My most recent knives look like a lot of people's first knives.

This was my first knife with proper steel. O1 ht'ed by Brian Lyttle, stabilized swordfish bill from knifemaker.ca, kydex sheath by me and wall plaque by my wife.

This was the first "knife" I was commissioned to make. a569 steel un-heat treated, tough as hell but can be given an edge, just won't last long!

I am very impressed with how many quality knives are other peoples' firsts! Congrats all

My son's first knife, S30V with stabilized hickory, and my first knife (Well, first one finished, second one started)

This was my first one nearly a year ago. Some 1095 I ordered off of Jantz. Did my own HT before I read that 1095 HT was "complex". Did two knives and broke one to find a nice smooth grain structure. The other one I finished with slabs cut off an Oak board. I did have to grind it a little narrower because I over heated the edge once. I use this knife all the time around the shop and it holds a good edge even with the simple HT. I did try a forced patina with some brown mustard and lemon juice. Didn't care for that finish though.

These are my first two, annealed in a wood stove, hand filed and sanded, also made before I discovered bladeforums :rolleyes:

Here's my first, my dad requested I make this for him after he had a stroke. He knew I'd been wanting to get into knife making for many years. I think it's called a Knork. 1084 with black paper Micarta scales and nickle silver bolsters and pins.
