Well I'd like to thank you guys for all of the help I got on this forum on my first knife. The blade is made from an old disc and was heat treated in vegetable oil. The handle is homemade micarta made out of a black, blue, and a gray t-shirt. The knife overall is about seven inches with a three inch blade. I'd just like to thank all of you guys who helped me on a few threads I made asking various questions. I have a piece of 1095 with which I hope to make a few more this summer and have professionally heat treated. Thanks.:D

I think you posted the wrong link, it links to the knife picture on photobucket, but doesn't embed it here. So in a sense, it does work.

As to the knife, it looks good for a first time, it's hard to tell in the pic, but the handle looks somewhat blocky, but don't worry, I made that mistake a lot early on as well. You'll start to get a feel for what looks and feels right with the more knives you make.

Yeah i think i added to many unneeded layers when making the micarta.

That is better than my first knife. The pic is a bit hard to tell from, but it looks like you got the grind 2/3 the way up the blade, and even as far as I can tell. The handle can be filed more into a D shape with files, sandpaper, belt sander etc. The pins look evenly spaced, and appear to be gap free. I like it. For handle finishing shaping, I use a powerfile. They are about $50.00 and save a lot of time contouring the scales. They are great for sanding the tang/ricasso transition as well.

I second the blocky handle, but the grind looks just fine. It is true that a lot of first knives have grinds that are way to shallow. Yours appears to be just fine for the blade thickness as far as I can see from the pommel area... It appears you were going for a bushy type knife, and I favor a shorter and fatter grind for that type of knife as its use is typically harsh. (At least that's how I use them...:))
Were you shooting for the finish on the blade? Appears you sanded back the HT oxidation and left it to some degree. If you were shooting for that, it looks great. If not, still looks great and is a nice match for the raggish (micarta). And I don't know that the handle is overly thick either, just a little squared off for my taste, but hey, great first knife... cheers.

I would say its a little square but I like the thickness.
