I first met Alex Doherty at the Blade Show 2005. To make a long story short, we had a good time and he does not live that far away. He stopped by for a visit the other day and he had the first knife that he designed and made. I thought he did a really good job on it, so I thought I would share some pictures.

He also had another one, that he made. I really liked it:eek: , In fact, I had to have one. But I don't have any pictures of it. I will post some pics when I get the knife. :D

Alex Doherty is the maker.

Wow, beautiful lines. You gotta like that D2, also. Is that 58-60 hardness?

Thanks for the kind words 71cuda, yes it is about 59. I would also like to thank Josh & Jon Graham these are two world class nice guys. Not only did they let us(me and a friend) visit there shop they went out of there way to help me better my knife making with some tips and tricks. Heck they even paid for lunch. Anyway these fellas make some really nice knives and they are hoot to hang out with.

Thanks,
ALEX

Excellent first knife. In fact, it looks like the work of a much more experienced maker. Did he do a lot of practicing first?

Something like that I think:D I don't know all the details, but He has had some very famous influence.

Alex, see if you can find a picture of the other one you had. The one I really liked.

This knife is really the second knife I ground. I made a tooth pick out of the first one. The knife Josh likes is my third grind. I gave that knife to a friend of mine so I don't have it but I'll see if I can get some pics. So I really haven't had alot of practice but I have had alot of help.

It's funny I started out to make myself a knife and I don't have one yet. I hope to finish another one soon and I keep saying this one is mine but someone might come along and say that they like it. Then I will have to let it go too. I don't know why but like it better for someone else to have it. I guess it gives me a good excuse to make another one. Because right now anyway each knife I make starts out for me.:D

THANKS
ALEX

It would be an understatement to say I don't know much about knife-making but, as a designer, I love that piece. Knice job.

Thank you. I'm glad you guys like it. One of the hardest things for me to do is trying to draw something original. Almost everything has been done in some way or another. The grip on this knfe came from playing with some play-dough with my little boy. I just molded it to fit my hand. Then I added a long clip-point for general use. But I'm sure somewhere there it one that looks just like it :D

Thanks
ALEX

That is amazing: for any knife, let alone a first or second! Very classy! It has an almost timeless look to it, as though it would be at home today, or thousands of years ago, in a distant land.

In that respect, the Kydex sheath looks out of place, limiting its look to just "modern". This knife is so much more than that, so I believe that a sheath of fine leather would just set this piece off fantastically! (Kydex is sort of "tactical" looking, and this piece is more "classical", to me at least.) Just my opinion.

Pocketknife,
Thank you. I feel the same way about the leather sheath, but the guy that got this knife wanted kydex. Thanks again for your opinion. I'm glad to get the input.

Great Job  . Love the look and it has that sort of simple yet sophisticated look that I love.

This is the knife that Alex had with him that I really liked. I think this would have been his 3rd knife. Tough grind for a 3rd knife.
BTW, Alex is mine ready yet?:D

I've been carrying this knife daily for about a month, it has a good feel to it and with Josh Graham's pocket sheath it carries very well.

Wish my first knives looked half as good!
Nice work!
