first knife...

Very good, Andrew! I'm glad to see it all come together. It always feels good to get that first one under your belt. Welcome to the addiction! :D

thankyou very much Bill and Nathan... I still need to do some touch up on it buff the handle out and do a little touch up on the matte finish. Ill take more pics after that.

Nice job Andrew!
Glad to see you put that material to use! You should have enuff material for a handle or two. I would be curious to see how the black g10 looks...Don't believe I have seen it as a set of scales (besides the scales I made for a friend at work on the CNC).

It looks great to me and the shape of the blade is one of the most usefull ones I could think of. Somewhat pointy, enough belly and flat ground for food prep and such. Usually first knives are scandis because there is less bevel to grind and less work (usually) while at the same time, having the blade mostly full thickness, allows room for screw ups, prevents warping, etc. Kind of more forgiving. Actually my first knife was an ugly scandy.

Could we get a spine shot to admire that tappered tang? How about one from your grinder? Curious to see what you used.

Yours looks absolutely great. Good job!

I used a grinder on it a long time ago..( about two months).. and screwed it up... soo the blade sat..thinking it was going to be a reminder to me of not to do next time, and one day I decided to try to clean it up using files. and It came out looking ok.. I really didnt want to take pics of it cuse I didnt know If i could fix it... but alas! it came out ok. Ill take a shot of the tang to show you guys tonight after my wife and I get back from our baby appointment.

thanks,

next on the scale color is actually going to be blue... I really like that color and I think it will make a great handle...then the black.. already have the knives rough ground... just need to heat treat... Ill post pics of that one for you..

thanks again Bill..

I know I said I was going to post pics of the tapered tang about a week ago...I think.. but I wanted to wait to make a kydex sheath before I posted tang pics... Kinda killing two birds with one stone as the saying goes. I havent done anything else to the knife except the sheath because I had some Fit and finish questions at my next get together with Bill Burke.

I am really happy with the knife and just as happy with the sheath. There are some blue splotches on the sheath because I forgot to put a releasing agent on the camp mat foam before I stuck the sheath in the press... I have to say.. I am through messing arround with the blue camp mat foam.. Im gonna get the real stuff... well I hope you like.

Thanks again to everyone who has helped me. especially Bill Burke, Nathan Burgess and Bill fry for materials and time.
