I've been working on this for a while and was finally able to get it heat treated today. It isn't an easy process with mainly hand tools to work with, but it was a fun project. Critiques are welcome. It's 1/4" 01 and it's about 9" long. The handle is Cocobolo finished with shellac and wax.

Not the best picture but looks great. I like Cocobolo wood makes a great looking handle. John

here is a better picture. There is something to be said for natural light when your taking a picture.

Name it, and make more:thumbup:

I would keep the scales at the Gard level,

But what I know?

Keep it up
Best regards

I would keep the scales at the Gard level...

Very good first knife krapp. (Does that nick have something to do with your real name?)

Personally I would remove the bump/thumb rest at the back. It makes things a little "busy" and breaks up the nice flow from handle to blade taking the eye to the nice harpoon clip. (Not sure what they call it.)

Thanks for sharing and as they said, go make another one. :D

Thanks guys. It's been interesting making my first knife. It is a LOT of work with mostly hand tools to do the job, but i will be making more.

And yes Krap was a nickname that i picked up in high school when some of the kids figured out that my last name spelled backwards was krap.

Just remember the dust from grinding cocobolo is posionous. It gets into your lungs and you drownd in your own body fluids. Always wear a respirator mask and use good ventilation. Work Safe.

Yes, very nice. I would agree to keep the scales behind the guard, but what do I know. I haven't finished any that I am willing to put my name on, yet.

Yep i always wear a respitory device when working with Cocobolo. It isnt' poisonus as much as the risk of allergic reaction. The more you work with it, the bigger the risk becomes.
