I've had a few knives in my life but they've all been low quality victorinox's and no name knives.

I figured that it's about time for me to invest into a decent knife.

I've really liked Spyderco but I've also looked at the BM Griptilian and the SOG twitch 2. The Spydercos I've been looking at consist of the Tenacious, the delica 4 and the PM2.

Since this is my first knife that I'll actually EDC (and seeing as though I've never actually EDCed a knife) I didn't want to spend too much money on a knife because I don't even know if I'll like EDCing one. Either way I've really liked what I've heard of the quality of the PM2 but I don't want to spend 100 dollars on a knife then just not use it if I end up not liking to carry it.

So my question to you "knife elders" is, what is a good blade to start my collection.

Please give other suggestions! THANKS!!!

The Endura and Delica a great options also the check out the Spyderco Native and Manix 2 series.

A couple of suggestions:
1.) Spyderco Delica FFG
2.) Kershaw Skyline
3.) Benchmade 530
4.) Buck Vantage (or a Buck Paradigm if you like assisted)

As far as the paramillie goes, you can believe the hype. Spending $100 on a knife used to make my eyes bulge, but if you stick with the "hobby" long enough, you'll end up spending more than you ever imagined on knives you never thought you'd buy.

Hey! A SAK is a fine knife for EDC! The best thing about SAK is that they are "friendly"

My personal preference is a Leek (nice and flat with very smooth assisted opening)

or

Delica 4 (nice in the hand, friendly non-assisted opening, but with a 'flick' just as fast)

I'd go with something like the Tenacious or Delica. Both will serve you well. Then, if you've truly caught the bug, buy a PM2.

I don't think Victorinox is low quality. They make excellent knives.

I think Spyderco Delica is a good choice. A very good knife, well made, well priced, good steel. Endura is a lot bigger and just a few more buck. Don't have a Tenacious but they're good too.

Ontaria RAT-1 is a good knife for a very good price.

All noted about are in the <$60 range too.

I would say the delica is a good choice but if you like the size of the PM2 try out a Spyderco Stretch I love mine.

I didn't mean to say that all victorinox's are bad quality because they definitely aren't, it's just the ones I had were worn out hand me downs that originaly costed 10 bucks haha.

I have been carrying a full size Gerber Applegate Fairbairn for about six years now, and it has only only recently failed me when the bolt that the blade swings on started becoming loose over and over again, regardless of multiple adjustments. Now after the latest repair there is too much play in the blade for me to be happy with it. I have bought another, and just like the original it is solid. They have served me well. A downside people may agree with is that it is a hefty folder. That is less of a problem for me because of my size. I barely notice the girth of it in my pocket.

With me it started with Kershaw Nerve for $25. Then I got a BM Mini Griptilian for $70, then Zero Tolerance 0350 for $120. All I'm saying is "Be carefull what you wish for". I'm hot and ready to pull the trigger on Spyderco's Paramilitary 2. IMHO the best bang for your buck is ironically Buck Vantage S30V steel american made. You can find it for $60. If you're not a steel or USA made freak a Kershaw Cryo is a very nice Hinderer like assisted flipper.

An auction site I know has good quality, lightly used Victorinox SAKs for not much more than $10-$15. The Tenacious is a great first knife for EDC, as is the Ontario RAT-1. The Para2 is an outstanding piece of kit but might be worth waiting for until you get a better idea of what you like in a knife before dropping those kind of dollars on one.

Agreed an Ontario Rat-1 is a must have. Also I would not consider a Victorinox low quality. I'm guessing you meant cheap knockoff Swiss Army style knives.

to be completely honest, if you been reading, and watching a lot of youtube reviews,go with something good for your first knife. many of people i know get a tenacious or cheapie kershaw and thats all they ever have, if you want to catch the virus, get yourself a sage, para 2 , or delica. do not buy something cheap then be disappointed. but then again if you dont buy cheap, you will be buying a hinderer in about 3 months .. there is just no way to win :grumpy:
