First knive

You know I really like the crkt drifter the only problem is sharpening with a regular stone is difficult

The Tenacious is a great knife! I have no idea what people mean by being disappointed.
I own and have owned several higher end knives and my Blue Tenacious is sitting right here with me in my pocket.
You can get the regular version for around $30, has a decent blade steel, easy to sharpen, holds a good edge, and it's just one of the best "bargain" knives out there in my opinion. It's solid and well built.

The Delica or Endura are also great knives but in that price range I would say to get the Spyderco Native. It can be had for $50-$60 buck and has s30v steel, fits the hand like a glove, nice handles, good clip, and it's just a good knife. Best in that price range in my opinion.

My ffg endura is like an old friend to me, great blade length, light, comfortable and just a work horse

I still use it over razor blades when I'm masking off cars at work

The fact that you're on the forums and asking for advice probably means you are well on your way to becoming just as bad as all of us. Welcome to the sickness!

Assuming you are infected and or about to become a full blown knife zombie, you might as well go in with the PM2. You really can't lose with it and you're going to eventually end up with it anyway. Your knife options are sound and it shows that you ARE reading about knives...

By-pass the knives you'll probably end up replacing anyway (don't get me wrong, they are good knives...but the bug will get you to buy more knives) and get the PM2 you'll probably keep in the long term.

One final step to actually SAVE you money...figure out which PM2 you want (M390 Smurf, Orange CTS-XHP, CF S90V, Gray CTS-20CP, Soon to be released Green CTS-204P, Std. S30V Variants) and just get that one instead of buying the less expensive one then buying another sprint version.

Good luck and have fun.

I ended up buying and keeping a Para Military 2 over some other mid-end folders this past year. I also had bought a full serrated Endura that I'm going to post in my signature box to trade or something. The reason I'm saying is not to spam you, it's because I took the advise of a lot of people (like you are doing) and I ended up with a great blade.

I've had a few knives in my life but they've all been low quality victorinox's and no name knives.

I figured that it's about time for me to invest into a decent knife.

I've really liked Spyderco but I've also looked at the BM Griptilian and the SOG twitch 2. The Spydercos I've been looking at consist of the Tenacious, the delica 4 and the PM2.

Since this is my first knife that I'll actually EDC (and seeing as though I've never actually EDCed a knife) I didn't want to spend too much money on a knife because I don't even know if I'll like EDCing one. Either way I've really liked what I've heard of the quality of the PM2 but I don't want to spend 100 dollars on a knife then just not use it if I end up not liking to carry it.

So my question to you "knife elders" is, what is a good blade to start my collection.

Please give other suggestions! THANKS!!!

there are many different knives to choose from, these are just a few very good options at a few different price points:

$0-$20: opinel #7 or #8, bucklite max medium

$20-$40: buck vantage select/avid, spyderco tenacious, kershaw leek, kershaw skyline

$40-$60: buck vantage pro, spyderco delica, spyderco endura, kershaw leek

$60-$80: benchmade mini griptillian or griptillian

$80-$120: spyderco para2, benchmade mini onslaught

Benchmade 530

Its a great little knife, extremely light weight, great steel (154 CM), price isn't all that bad, and its really thin, you can barely tell its in your pocket

Benchmade makes good stuff. Even the "cheaper" Benchmades are excellent.
But remember. 1 turns into 1000 FAST :D

A couple of suggestions:
1.) Spyderco Delica FFG
2.) Kershaw Skyline
3.) Benchmade 530
4.) Buck Vantage (or a Buck Paradigm if you like assisted)

As far as the paramillie goes, you can believe the hype. Spending $100 on a knife used to make my eyes bulge, but if you stick with the "hobby" long enough, you'll end up spending more than you ever imagined on knives you never thought you'd buy.

Well put haha
