First Knives, Now Flashlights: What's Next?

I started out being a simple knifenut, and the knowledge I acquired here at BF took me from cheapie Bucks to Sebenzas. And unintended side effect has been that I've gotten interested in other kinds of equipment mentioned in posts here on the forums (let's call this "BF mission creep"). At the moment, for example, I'm discovering the world of tactical flashlights. I once thought Maglites were the best of the bunch; I now have an Inova 5x, a Streamlight Scorpion and am currently lusting after some Surefires, specifically the three battery models.

This is getting expensive. Plus, I have a feeling that I'm going to get interested in other kinds of expensive stuff, too.

Has this happened to anyone else? And, if so, after knives and flashlights, what's the next step? Help me to prepare myself for the future! ;)

same w/me, cept i went after corvettes, guns, high end watches, THEN production /custom tac knives, and surefires.

its a sickness, i swear

now its emerson knives (my wife isnt too bad about it thank goodness, she has NEVER worked a day in her life, so if i wanna buy knives/watches/lites/etc, she gen'ly is cool w/it)

but i agree, its a expensive addiction, and as bad as crack prob, w/out the health risk lol (well, 'cept cuts of course lol)

What's the next step? :D Besides knives I'm into pens, flashlights, and tools. Sure, they might be safers than knives but they are not inexpensive hobbies, that's for sure!

Many of my friends were into drugs & dealing etc until I took the money from the police to help put them away. Atleast I could fund my SureFire addiction...

My Lithium addition - I'm a heavy user. I really get off on those 20 minute highs.

I'm in the process of buying a Strider-Buck mini Tanto (UK legal 3" blade) I'm fed up with the people I work with. Using their $10 folders. My first knife should open their eyes. Whether they will open their wallets remains to be seen. I will get a real Strider one day. Honest.

Well, I'm kinda into pens already, but not so much that I would spend a bundle for one. I'd be too much afraid to lose it and, besides, I just don't handwrite things much anymore. My computer has mostly taken over there.

I love tools, but don't get that much chance to use them.

Watches, for whatever reason, don't really turn me on. I'm perfectly happy wearing an inexpensive model. Hey, I can put the $ I save towards another Sebenza (or maybe a couple of those Surefires I've been lustin for)!

With regard to firearms, I would probably have already gotten more involved, if it were not for the fact that I live in Italy, where the state makes you jump through a zillion hoops to get one. I have two pistols, a Beretta 9x21 and a S&W .357, but getting them was not simple, especially since I'm not a native Italian.

LOL...you got bitten hey? Well next is .....survival and emergency gear and tools of all sorts....gadgets gimmicks watches, pens, knives, more knives...oh and did I mention knives? I have assembled my own Personal Survival Kits (PSK's) and 90% of the fun was putting them together and seeing just how much you can stuff into an Altoids-type tin etc etc. HAHAHAHAHA It sure is fun.

I have been diagnosed as a knife knut by my family. I guess it shows on my fingers.....always have a plaster or two....always, since I am always fondling my knives and opening closing opening closing etc.

One day when I am big, I will buy an Al Mar SERE 2000 folder and an Ontario RTAK...promise!!!! I will have to eneak them into the house though...sssssssssssssssssssssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!

Yup, gotta admit, I've already felt the pull of survival and emergency gear. Actually, I file flashlights under that category. I'm always on the lookout for quality fire starting materials, compact saws, compasses, binoculars, etc. Ahh, speaking of binoculars, there's a product that can cost you some serious moolah. I already own more binoculars than my actual number of eyes, but will certainly be buying more - and paying more for them. I call this the Sebenza sindrome. The Sebenza is pretty much the top of the production folder food chain, so where do you go from there? Well, I suppose you start buying customs (hasn't happened to me yet, but only because I haven't been able to justify the cost. Yet.). So ... I'm sure I'll keep buying higher and higher quality binoculars, until I reach that blinding flash of binocular perfection, at which point I will be seriously broke, bearing in mind that in the meantime I'll probably have also bought an unseemly amount of top - of - the - line knives and flashlights. It's enough to make a guy turn to pimping or drug dealing just to come up with few extra bucks ....

Personally, I can't afford Crack.

Yeah, what's the point anyway? Knives, watches, guns, pens, and whatnot are waaaay more addicting than crack :p :D

Watches. Don't fight it, 'tho...It's a natural progression.:D.

Sunglasses.......Personally, I have added watches to my knife, flashlight, & pen hobby but Sunglasses are sneaking in there too. I have a couple of pair of Oakley's and a pair of Gargoyles(and various generic ones). I really need help I think.....my wife tells me I have a problem daily. Maybe she's right but at least I don't collect automobiles!

I went from knives, to "modern" flashlights, to antique and vintage flashlights, and now to modern "cool" and classic vintage compasses.

Life is rough when you decide you need a Brunton pocket transit to find your way home from the store or to a hunting blind 1/4 mile off the road. :(

Very addictive with so many oppertunities to accessorize!

Don't forget a nice mountain bike!

Both of these offer plenty of chances to add on Carbon Fiber and Titanium!

cameras equipment. It's bad enough when you stick to the modern stuff. Get into vintage equipment and you'll go nuts. I personally use an Olympus OM-1 from the 70s. Getting lenses is a bitch, but doable.

With a gadget future so bright, you'll need a good pair of shades to make it through. I got a pair of Oakleys, now I want another pair. Specifically the polarized Juliet with the Polished frame and Fire lenses.

Watches are a good one too. You don't have to get a $10K Rolex. There are plenty of great watches in the $300-$600 range. I prefer Seiko.

There's seems to be a formula here. Take an everyday item and make it really well. And/or make a better design. Then guys like us really appreciate it. And then want more.

Like the basic SureFire 6P. It is so much better than a Mag Lites (and more so over the generic, plastic 2D light) that I've ended up buying more.

Plus accessorize. What good is a Sure Fire M6 if you can't carry it with confidence? Get a Blackhawk pouch. Don't want to lose that Small Sebenza? Get a G2 pouch.

I don't know if anyones mentioned lighters specifically. I know fire starters (including spark generators) were mentioned. I've even heard packs named as such an item...

I'm a user more than a collector, and that manages to constrain me to some extent. I only have so much use (time in the day/week/whatever) for any of these things. I have however found used flashlights to make excellent gifts (with new batteries of course) as they tend not to show wear much unless they've been dropped a lot. This makes room for yet higher tech flashlights at least...

This surefire addiction is starting to kill me. I just got my second surefire M-6. My first one arrived and I got a few minutes of use and the batteries went dead. Off to the store for some Duracells and this sucker is bright!!!!

*** A quiick plug for Dan, Customer service at Surefire. I dropped him an E-mail to let him know the batteries that came with the light died. Dan left me a voice message on the phone and is shipping me new batteries and a free lamp assembly. That was NOT the purpose of writing surefire, I just wanted to let the know that maybe they got a bad lot of 123's.To Dan, wherever you are, thanks buddy.

Now here's the addiction part. I half approx six 6P's, and M-4 a 10X and now a pair of M-6's. I generally use jsut the P-6's because I also have two straemlight stigers and two rechargable Mags, so why did I need to go bonkers with surefire?

SHELBY CHAN that's why!!!! He posted some photos he took and man the hooks were drove deep. What does a person do with two new M-6's?????

This is sick, I am sick, does this ever end????? Now I will be trading flashlights for R/C trucks next!!!! Is their a pill you can take?

I know - Shelby has also got me interested in Striders.
His SureFire photos are amazing.
Everything he takes photos of I want.

Shelby has a lot of SureFires. Perhaps I'll catch him up one day?
I believe I currently have 32 complete SureFires and parts to convert them into practically every combination SureFire make.
I have a 6PT & 7ZT coming soon with some other stuff from Tim "The Prince" Flanagan.

No WeaponLights as such (although I will getting hold of an M100 for a while from a friend)

I have an M6 for each hand - "The power high - 12 SF123As in 20 minutes..."

Al :D

I can't remember how I stumbled onto one of these forums, but once I found out what the 'best' was both in knives and flashlights I was hooked.

-Knives (first folders, then fixed blades - Busse's mainly)
-Flashlights (Surefires)
-Survival and Outdoor gear that are 'high quality'

Other spending 'outlets' I see coming down the pike:
-Fly fishing
-Guns
-ATV
-blah, blah, blah

As far as watches go - bought a stainless steel Rolex in 1982 and haven't had the desire to buy any more watches since.
