First Knives, Now Flashlights: What's Next?

jmx and Nathan, don't get me started on mountain bikes, or bikes in general. My wife said, "you can't possibly need more than six bikes..." :D

And geez, cameras, luckily I kinda knew when to quit. I've dabbled a bit, but I just don't use them as much as I should to justify them. I'm holding steady at an older Canon AE-1, a Minolta XG7, an awesome little Canon Canonet 28 rangefinder from the `60's, an Agfa Ansco folder, a Russian (?) Meopta Flexaret II TLR, and an Olympus Infinity Twin point-and-shoot. The Infinity and the AE-1 are the only two that see regular use anymore.

And BTW, yeehaw! I just finally scored my pocket transit, an Ainsworth military M2 from 1942. Who's yer daddy?! :D :D

being a "bike dumb" person, I was amazed to see a bike FRAME for four grand:eek:

No tires, handlebars, nothin' but frame made out of carbon fiber. then he shows me this bike with all the goodies and it was six thousand. I was just looking for a bike helmet for my kid and I discover you can pay as much for a bicycle as you can a M/C.

and 15S, I see you on candlepower.com alot. I lurk there to see who the true surefire junkies are and buddy, you rank right up there with the best of them.

In a Power-failure, we can both walk outside armed with M-6's and light up the neighborhood for 20 minutes. The only difference is that after about an hour, I will be out of batteries and I understand you buy them by the pallet. Is there any cure for these addictions??

Ira;)

DIDNT THE ADDICTION START WITH COMIC BOOKS

DIDNT IT START WITH BASEBALL CARDS AND FOOTBALL CARDS

HELL IVE GROWN UP AND THE NATURE OF THE ADDICTION HAS CHANGED

HELL THEN AGAIN MAYBE I DIDNT GROW UP :D

BUT ONE THING ABOUT IT THESE DAMN MICROTECHS
AND SPYDERCOS NOT TO MENTION LIGHTERS AND WATCHES
AND EVERYTHING ELSE THAT I FIND COOL IS KILLING ME

Well, I see that I'm in good company. Can anybody give me a recommendation on which three - cell Surefire to buy? I'm leaning towards the D3 Guardian, but am open to suggestions.

Oh, and I'm also taking a look at the Surefire Z3 Combatlight. To all of you who are wise in the ways of Surefire, which would you suggest: the D3 Guardian, or the Z3 Combatlight, and why?

Thanks for the ... well, I was going to say enlightenment, but that just sounds like a bad pun. Thanks for your help! ;)

The D3 is clean-lined. Simple, LockOut TailCap & Pocket/BeltClip. Good Good.

The Z3 is beautiful. Simple, Adjustable CombatGrip, LOTC & Lanyard. Designed to be used with a Handgun.

Which would I suggest?
:D
Now I use the CombatGrips in common useage - I find they are very useful. So the Z3 would be my inital vote.
But then, I have two M3T's and an M3 so I don't need one.
What I need is more bodies to put TurboHeads on. Adding an A19 to a Z3 means you can't use the CombatGrip, also looks dreadful.
So the D3 would be better for me so I can convert it to a 12PMT.
But then the three cell TurboHead options are pretty cool. The N2 lamp is very nice in a variety of TurboHead Bezels (I have them all)

Also consider that you may want to convert the three-cell into a NiCad rechargeable model using the B65 NiCad powering the P60 or P61 lamps. Again, the A20 adapter on the Z3 doesn't look very nice.

But then I've got a Classic 7Z(T) so I have a NiCad rechargeable with a CombatGrip...

Honest, straight answer (not based on what I need)

If you will ever use the 3 cell with a handgun, get the Z3.
If you plan to carry (Belt-clip) the 3 cell, or plan to adapt it, get the D3.

Personally, I think you should get the M3, but that's just because I've spent time knocking it about and really respect it, and it's TurboHead friend, the M3T.

I do buy lots of SF123As.

I've spent more on batteries then I have on flashlights.
I also spend the a couple minutes at CPF & SFDB...
Sitting here wearing my SureFire (staff uniform) poloshirt with two SureFire protoz on my desk (don't worry, they are NOT the A2 or KL1 :( )
I even have the SureFire logo on my cell phone. Am I addicted?
Whatever gave you that impression?

Al

I did the Jeep thing for a while, and not long after it was completely finished and I was almost broke, I sold it and made a few bucks.

I'm getting that Jeep fever again, and my wife is gonna kill me!

It's getting better. A few years ago, that bike would probably be over $10k. The best part is you can get a damn good bike for $1000, where it used to take nearly 3grand to get that kind of performance. Heck, the bikes in the $700-$1k range are as good as the customs from 6-7 years ago.

Al - That's exactly the kind of feedback I'm looking for. I won't be using the flashlight with a handgun and really prefer the clean lines and the belt clip of the D3. I looked at the M3, but, given that I live in Italy, it just costs too much. Where do you buy your Surefires?

Thanks very much for the information.

If you are into flashlights, check out LED flashlights. LED flashlights are very efficient and compact. Battery life is more than twice that of traditional flashlights. LEDs last a very long time, i.e., 10,000 hours. You can learn more about LED flashlights by visiting CandlePowerForums.com. My favorite LED flashlights are:

1) Inova X5 Tactical
2) CMG Reactor
3) Arc AAA
4) Opalec NewBeam LED Module for Mini Maglite
5) Princeton Tec Impact

Disclaimer: I own PocketLights.com. I started Pocketlights.com because I love LED flashlights and wanted to do something I enjoy.
