First knives

My first knife was a handmedown Girl Scouts' knife when I was in the Cub Scouts. Sheesh! My dad rectified that the next payday. I had several slip joint and Barlow type knives I had traded for or won/lost at marbles etc. until I purchased a Buck Special! Now THAT was a knife:D

Ahh, an Uncle Henry with imitation stag handles; don't recall the pattern. My grandmother bought it for me when I was 8. We were on vacation in Northern Michigan. She told me not to open it until we got home. Bumping along for miles in the backseat of her big old Delta 88 along an unpaved road, I didn't think she's notice, so of course I opened it, and of course I laid my thumb open. Slyly, I used my shirt tail to apply first aid. I said nothing, and neither did she, except to ask if I wanted a band aid and a clean shirt when we got home. Carried that knife well into my teens. I still remember the broken scale which swung on one pin like a pendulum.

My parents brought me to Mexico when I was 12 - I snuck off and bought a switchblade. I was the man when I got back to school with it!

i believe i got a case dual-bladed slipjoint from my father when i was, oh, about 8. managed to cut a finger (not really badly) the first day i used it whittling, and he took it back, probably in the vain attempt to keep me from being a dummy. many years later (maybe about 15 or so), he gave me a case with the end snapped off of one of the blades, because it wasn't very useful to him anymore. i need to ask him whether it is the same one or not, and perhaps i will grind the snapped blade to something useful again. beautiful little knife. i was in awe of it when i first touched it, as i am in awe with every new knife i hold/use.

Nic, that was beautiful man.:)

My first was a Victorinox Classic given to me by my dad when I was 12. It was subjected to throwing and other abuse...:( Broke it in under a week.

My next was a Wenger Traveler. Still have it, was a constant companion, but I just don't like the red handles and serrated edge, so now my EDC SAK is a Victorinox Soldier and that will remain for a very long time.

I believe that my first was an SAK Tinker that I was awarded in Cub Scouts so that I could work on my totin' chip. I love that knife, I bought a Tinker to replace it last spring and it gets lots of pocket time.

I posted a similar thread on the OZ & Asian Connection - Vicnox came out in front - mine a swedish mora type with wooden handle and double guard can't remember any cuts I was about 12 at the time.
