Phil, I was also thinking about you this week cause I was looking at solid Koa Yukes. I was thinking it must be much easier to find in your neck of the wood.
Back to the knife. Don't worry, I will do a separate how-to on the inlay process, probably next week. The cross was sanded smooth and leveled with the blade with 220. The cross was cast so maybe this has to do with the different reaction of the middle to Fecl.
The knife is actually perfectly balanced to stand on it's own
...or there is a thin stainless strip in the back with an earth magnet. First option sounds cooler.
