First Leath Sheath (Pic heavy)

A combined effort ,my wife's mission was to find the leather and a old fork from the opportunity shops and she did well.
A second hand police belt so my tooling problem was solved .
I sharpened the fork and put a handle on it to mark out the stich spacing and it did its job well.
I took the pictures outside in my portable light tent using the sun as my light source.

Nicely done. I am not a custom sheathmaker but have done a bit of leatherwork over the years. If you bevel the edges where the leather was cut it gives it a more professional, finished look. Just a suggestion FWIW.

Very nice, clean work! I have a question, though: When you unsheath, is there any concern about slicing the cordage you're using as a strap (over the hilt - with attached skulls)? It seems that with use the edge side of the knife would begin to slice the strap.

I think it could cut it but the truth is we are not allowed to carry anything like this over here so it will end up in a drawer next to my big bowie ,I just wanted to see if I could do the job and make it look ok.

What?!? You can't carry something like that in Australia?? So the whole Crocodile Dundee thing was all bullsh*t?? NOOOO!!!

I would think that people in the outback towns like where Mike Dundee lived it may still be ok to carry a sheathed knife but it is frowned on in the big smoke for sure ,they can (depending on the cop) fine you for carrying a SAK .

I was thinking of putting it on the sander but because it came with the groves I thought the stiching may end up to close to the edge.
What does FWIW mean:confused:
 
Not only does it look great, I love the frugality and inventiveness. Belt, fork? Awesome.
There is a hand tool to bevel the edges that would not threaten the stitching.

Every thing in the picture is second hand .
Steel = old car spring
Scales = old form blocks from work
Thong tube=Old aircraft hydraulic line
Red liner = A old aircraft sign
Sheath =old cop belt
 
What a great idea! Well done! (I love even stitching - which some professional sheath makers seem to have problems with ;) ) and yours looks...:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:
 
That is a great job of hand sewing! You should get some leather from Tandy or some place and make more . Looks great!!

I am making a clip point hunter at the moment and I have a piece of new leather just big enough for the sheath,I also won a basic set of leather craft tools on ebay once they get here I will have a go at making one from scratch.
