Well, I have a short blades leuku pattern knife out there right now, but this is the first attempt at a full size knife of this type.

I talk a lot about small knives, but I LOVE big knives- I just think they tend to be more specialised in use. This makes a good, lightweight chopper and... well, I would be happy to pick it up for a stroll down a dark alley.

Anyway- as Joe bob would say "check it out"

1/8 inch spine, L6 Steel. blade is 8 1/8 inches. Handle is about 4, OAL is 12 1/4. Ipe wood and O1 fittings, peened through the pommel. Of course, a full convex grind.

This is made specifically for a female friend who has smaller hands than I- handle works well for her. She spent a half hour chopping up a wind felled branch yesterday before I polished the handle up.

WOW!! Man, your work is really getting good bro! Thats SWEET!

very nice...

i'm not sure if i would call it a lueku because it tapers towards the tip instead of being more machete shaped, if you know what i mean, but it is a very nice piece of work.

i have actually been looking at trying my hand at a lueku myself recently...a little bit daunting.

good job on that knife, and good to hear the handle is comfy.

it is fast- I had to teach my friend how to "let go" with the wrist a little and let it move quicker. Balance is only .5 inch forward of the guard.

The belly shape is a bit non-traditional for the more common leukus, but I've seen photos of some that are a bit thinner. It works great as a field knife so far, and actually carves pretty decently. Of course, it batons like no tomorrow. I also have a bit of a guard on there- I was going to grind that down along with the handle and keep it even, but my friend really wanted a bit of guard.

Andy- thanks!
