So I want to make a liner lock. I got some titanium from Gustavo, 2 pieces 10 inches long .100 thick, and I have some good blade material that is 3/16ths thick. I only have a couple pieces of this titanium, and I don't want screw it up. Is there any fool proof ways to go about this, with set locations for pins, the lock, stops, etc? The weird thing is I want to use all 10 inches, so the finished knife will be slightly less than 20", in a plain jane style like a sebenza/bradley with just plain titanium for the sides.

Sam, do you need a pattern to go by or anything? I can draw you something up if you need it. You could print it and copy it to your Ti. ;)
Also, you could make your own drill plate template from steel and do your holes from that.

David my first thoughts were to just send it to you and have you cut out parts that would fit. I have an idea what I want it to look like aesthetically, it's just I don't know how to go about the technical locations of the pivot hole, lock, and the meshing parts on the blade that would correspond so it would function right.

Sketch it out and send me a pic. I'll do the tech stuff for you and send you a pic back that you can work from. I will need to know what size pivot, stop pin and hardware you want to use. Heck, you can post the pic on here and I'll do the same if you like. :)

David can definitely fine tune folders! He hooked me up....now I just have to finish the dang thing....

Email sent David! Here is the two designs I have it narrowed down to.

Here's the first attempt. The liners are 10". 1/4" pivot, 1/16" detent, 5/32" stop pin and 1/4" x 1/2" washers. I did front and rear bolsters with scales. This one works. :D

"B" looks very cool.....a very utilitarian design (referring to the blade shape).

I want one. :)

I made a big mistake! I need to be more up on my terms, I meant frame lock. The titanium is very robust, and I want to anodize it instead of putting scales on it. It will be huge, could the pin sizes be scaled up, like a 3/8 or 5/16 pivot? David, if the center pin was not there would the blade index better into the handle?

Sam are you trying to compete with Schwarzenegger's big folder that he joked about yesterday ??

You could move the center pin and make the notch deeper for the stop pin and it will close further. But I don't think you will like making a framelock of this size with .100" Ti. Its not thick enough for something this big. It will make a nice linerlock of this size. I use .100" on a 3" framelock. Anything bigger, and the thickness goes up too. There's so many ways to do this. Make a linerlock with Ti bolsters, make a framelock with thicker material and so on. I don't know man. For something this size for a framelock, I would consider .187" to .225" Ti.

Here's Arnold's folder !!

Cool! I've got a huge piece of 1/2" thick Ti just waiting for a project like that.

David I understand, I never made anything like this before :) ! I gotta go to work, I will think about this more today.

Sam,
Are you going to use this knife as a sign for your shop?
Seriously, that is one BIG knife....10" handle...therefore something close to 9"+/- blade..
listen to David....his advise is darn good.....
Just to be "antagonistic", how about a pair of woolly mammoth ivory handle slabs or insets?...even on a framelock?
Darn that is one big honking folder!!
"Goodest" of luck!
