Hey all. A few months ago I completed this knife. 3/32" A2 and about a 3" blade.
Darrin Sanders did the HT.
One of the guys I work with went on an 18 day deer hunt down in MO the past couple weeks. I wanted to see how one of my designs would hold up in the real world.
He gave me the report this morning. He field dressed, skinned, and butchered 3 whole deer with it, in addition to butterflying about 40 lbs of pork loins. He touched it up between the second and the third deer, but "only because I wanted to, not because it really needed it."
I told him before he left to push the knife to its limits. He said he didn't spare it any punishment, using it to break sternums, cut through joints, cut through vertebrae to sever the heads, etc. He told me about cutting shoulder roasts off the bone with easy swipes of the knife, while his hunting partners were sawing away at theirs.
This is the best part. He touched my knife up once, and just because. His friend was using a fancy $280 specially designed mass produced knife. That guy had to touch up several times each deer! Great job on the HT Darrin!! I told Jeff to tell his friend I'd make him one of mine for $250 and save him $30!
lol
All in all, I'm pleased as punch about this first real test of one of my knives. It just makes all the learning worth it to hear good stuff about the fruits of my labors.
Just thought I'd share my pleasure with some people who have been where I'm at.
