Thought I'd share with you all.
The photo isn't very good, but I finished it at 22:30 last night and had to deliver it right then because the birthday boy (a friend's father) was leaving town at o'dark thirty.
Forged 1084, convex ground, osage orange scales with linseed oil - the recipient is a woodcarver and outdoorsman and is comfortable caring for the finish of the handle, and linseed oil lets the osage age properly. 5 and change blade. It's forged with a kind of partial integral, the tang is thinned down a bit to get the balance right in the middle of the choil, about where the front of the scales are. The blade was full body quenched and then I put a differential temper on.
I sure like making these, think I'm going to do some in mycarta or phenolic once I put an order in to shadetree.
