Was playing with my new griptilian today and was very impressed with how comfortable it was to flip open and close. Sadly, my pinky got caught on the way down. The curse of having big hands I guess. Oh well. Anyone else have any noob knife injury stories?

I hadda get rid of my Sebbie 25 and go back to the 21...
That 25 is one mean mama when you close it with your fingers in the way. The 21 is much more forgiving, in my experience.

Scar tissue builds character. My knives have given me a lot of character, not to mention all the first aid practice. My personal favorite near-Darwin award was holding onto a tree branch I was chopping with BK 9 when I slipped. Part of my glove was cut off and a moment later I realized there was a piece of thumb in it, too. Damn clean cut though.

Seriously? I cut myself every week. Preparing your own meals will cause that lol.

I have my share of knife related scars. One of the most recent scars involve a large Uncle Henry stockman. I filleted a portion of my thumb off at work as a result of my carelessness. After raiding the first aid cabinet for gauze and bandages to stop the intense bleeding, I had to track down the blood dribbles to clean the evidence up since the use of pocket knives on the job is prohibited. I never did find the missing piece of my thumb though.:(:(:(:(

Mine was a while ago when i learnt to never cut towards yourself. I was cutting something with my father's scalpel sharp opinel and damn near sliced my finger off when the knife went trough

Missing thumb pieces probably go to the same place as missing socks.

T TheEdge01 pics or it never happened! --Lol!

On my infrequent visits to brick & mortar knife retailers, more than once I've fondled the wares until cutting myself. That's generally what I buy. I say it's the knife that picks me. ;)

Most new knives and I get to know each other in a special way.

:) Lots of little cuts and scratches mostly . But back when I did electrical wiring , the knife slipped while trying to strip some really tough underground plastic cable . That went deep into the area between my left thumb and index finger . My wife near fainted and she's not the type . Big scar still 25 yrs later . Lucky it wasn't a power tool / chainsaw etc !

Ouch!!! Cuts like that sting like crazy. Sorry, I didn't take any pics, if I had it to do over again I would have.

#1. H2O2 (3% hydrogen peroxide)

#2. surgical glue or similar ( some types of superglue work OK)

 Only for the small stuff w/o big bleeders and not too deep !;)

Oops.

This weeks *I'm an idiot* cut was when pushing down on the spine to make a cut, not realising the knife was the wrong way up. I blame Victorinox for having symmetrical (alox) handles. :D

I was opening one of those stupid plastic packages that are impossible to open w out scissors or a knife and was cutting toward my grip hand and it slipped and the blade bounced right off my thumb knuckle. It took a few second but it bled like crazy

I usually just nick myself but it is a sign that I typically really like a knife. Knives that don't cut me are the ones that don't get handled all that much and tend to get sold off at some point.

Good to see everyone knows Grandpa's #1 knife safety rule: Always cut toward the dumbass.

That said, lately my 'noob' grade injuries have been casual bumps on axes.. nasty. Both the last ones happened when sharpening, be careful when you flip them ol girls over to do the other side.
