The new Rufus pattern, with a handle in black linen micarta. One 3/16" mosaic pin and a 1/4" stainless thong tube. The steel is CPM154, 5/32" thick. It fills the general small bushcraft knife position in my lineup and is intended for light field work and EDC. The blade is just under 4", OAL just under 8". The black leather sheath is included and has a satin finish over Marine Black.
This one comes down to a nice fine edge, perfect for those camp chores where you don't need an actual filet knife but your bowie is just silly.
This is the FIRST of this design. I've been talking about it for quite a while and finally finished one. As much as I'd love to keep it that's a slippery slope and for now my willpower is holding out. If you're familiar with my work you know I am not a prolific maker, and no two knives are ever quite the same. I do tend to work with relatively few general designs and this is the latest. I listened to my customers and critics when they said they thought the Nubilus was a bit too delicate sometimes. The thin neck and generally thinner steel was ideal for the intended role but they had a slightly different need. The Rufus is my response. The same actual blade profile but with a heftier handle and one step up in steel gives this knife a less delicate feel. The full height grind and still modest steel thickness keeps it well suited for slicing and dicing but tough enough for more abuse than the Nubilus.
It only let me attach 5 so that's the last of them. Below is the closest Nubilus comparison. Same steel thickness, similar handle material and finish...
